We got chickens at a local feed store this spring. The sign at the store said they were Buff Rocks. As chicken novices, we had no idea that “buff” was a color for chickens and that “buff” chickens aren’t black, lol!
So we got these cute little black chicks. At first we though they were black star roosters as they had barring, and we know we have a black star hen...but now we think both of our barred chickens are actually barred rocks. Is this chicken a barred rock? All of the pictures we are finding of barred rocks do not have any chickens with white feathers on their chests...and we are sure this is a hen now as she started laying eggs yesterday:) so is she a barred rock?
Thank you!!!

She looks like barred rock mixed with easter egger. Here's my little barred rock mutt. He doesn't know whether he wants to be barred or plain gray! You girl is much prettier!

Well... I don't guess the store you bought them from knew 'buff' was a color either, eh? 😆 You're right on the coloring.
I'm with everyone else. This is a mix. Likely one part being a BR. 😉 Maybe a buff parent and that's why they called her that.
Pretty girl though!
