So true! I get such a kick out of watching them! I also have Buff Orpingtons the same age and my Rocks will just take the lead and try everything first. And its so cute how they scream like you're killing them when you pick them up!
I adore my barred rock rooster! This is Snoop, King of the Coop at 20 weeks old. He is very productive over his mixed flock and a mating machine, haha.

It doesn't appear to be a pure BR so it's hard to say for sure, and not knowing the age can also hamper gender determination. That said, I'm thinking it's a cockerel. Judging from the lighter color of the feathers and the well developed deep pink comb and wattles for its size...yeah, I'm thinking cockerel.

This is Sweet Pea. She has been the sweetest of my 7 hens since the day we brought them home. We named the Coop after her, Sweet Pea's Rustic Roost. As a chick she sat on my shoulder and all grown up she is usually on my feet. We think she is partly blind so she often runs at you when she knows your coming but doesn't stop in time and runs into your legs.
This is Bells, she is my little pecker. She knows I am the source of all good things and constantly pesters me for food or follow the dog around trying to get left over scraps from her. If there are no more snacks to be handed out, Bells and the dog will both graze on grass together. My animals are all very confused. Bells nickname is Shamu because she will jump for food, has since she was a chick. She is also at the top of the pecking order and defends snacks nest boxes, me and anything new until she decides if she wants it. When she is naughty, which is a lot I punish her by picking her up for cuddles and inflicting love upon her, which most of the time she hates.
