I have a 4-5 week old naked neck chicken whose father roo is barred. So far, my little isn't showing signs of barring. I don't know what color the mother hen was. Is this baby likely to be solid black? Including pictures of chick and one of dad roo.

I guess it would also depend on the coloring or even the back gene's on either side of the adult's. I had have had different color's come out of 2 white parents before. Since most of the Naked Neck's now are of mixed breed's being bred into them, any color can pop up in chick's. As for your question on if the chick will have some barring or not, how are the wing feather's coming in, do you see any sign of barring in them?

No barring that I'm seeing on the wings. I'm thinking this one is going to be solid black. Was hoping for barring, but this chick was a last minute addition on the off chance it would be barred, so not a big deal. Now just to hope it turns out to be a pullet so I can keep it

If you are trying to have a NN pullet chick hatch out with barring, I would breed him to a barred hen and hatch her egg's.

I don't have the dad roo if that's what you mean. I bought this chick from someone who bought hatching eggs from the owner of the roo, so that's why I have no idea about the mom.

Mom is irrelevant. Chick either gets the barred gene from dad or it doesn't.

Mom was probably black.

Mom, if barred can pass that gene along too though I thought? Even though hens have only one copy? Idk, I'm not that familiar with chicken genetics yet. Anyway, either way I don't think this one will be barred so likely, as you said, mom was black. I just meant that I don't have the parents, so wouldn'tbe able to produce barred nn pullets with them

Yes, a barred hen will pass it on.
