This is my basement enclosure.. these boys have been growing so fast and putting me through so much since the day I gt them ! Lucky for me they're still such sweet birds and that makes it worthwhile haha. I ended up creating this thing out of old shelfing sections and a bunch of surgical plastic... then I lined it with cedar and pine shavings. It smells absolutely wonderful down there now thanks to this shavings blend I found at a neat little tractor supply near my house. This will be their permanent home until I finish construction on their area outside... thoughts? :)

Great idea! It looks huge! How long will they stay in there?

Looks nice, I would switch to just pine shavings, too. I have never used cedar and some warn against it.

Wanted to add that you put some good thought and effort into this pen. Congratulations!

Nice... this is encouraging me to set up the old shower stall that was left here in the basement when we bought this place- it's pretty clean and in great shape but useless. Been tempted to use it for a brooder... I now just might!

Edit: Yep. I don't have a lot of work today so this is what I am going to do. Thanks for the inspiration!

Please be sure to share when finished.

They seem to be okay with the shavings since I started using them, they don't eat them or anything so I think its fine. And just to clarify, they're only gonna be in there until the summer :) also that lamp is for heat.. it gets cold in the basement so I decided to keep it.

Yeah for the water I just use jugs with holes cut in them, and I put them in a small tub to prevent spilling. Works for the most part!
