basic button quail care

oh no worries there LOL

my buttons are WAY SMALLER than the cotrunix LOL

have no clue how big the Bobwhites are going to be thou LOL

I have never raised them before - I set 12 eggs and got 3 chicks - sadly one died after hatch I have no clue what I am going to do with these 2 - I hope they are a pair but have no idea on how to sex them either LOL

they were going to be another flock for the zoo but I need to have more than 2 - so I am looking for more eggs now.

I am glad this sitting is working for thou the rule is that dose not tend to work well with Buttons when they get the little bug for the blood lust the results are very nasty. When I first started with Buttons I housed them in a large group for a vary long time. Then I took a couple birds out wow the result was a nightmare to say the least. At that time I contacted experienced breeders who told me that keeping in a group was a very bad idea. I have spent a great deal of time learning about Buttons. And I am only trying to pass this info on to others so that there little Buttons can have a wonderful safe life. By the way in the wild Buttons live in pairs not groups. I have had great success with my Buttons I have parents that raise there own young they live long lives they are very healthy. I hope that everyone out there raising Buttons or wanting to raise Buttons choose to make the best choices for their Buttons.

right now I am kinda stuck with limited space - but me and DH are buying our house and looking for a piece of land to move it too - when that happens we will be raising chickens again and building an outdoor flight run for the coturniux quail I have thought about seperating my buttons into smaller groups or pairs by color - but since the 12 I have are so used to living together I think I will leave them be hatch thier eggs and pair off the young when the time comes

you have alot of great info in your post - I am sure it will help someone who is looking to get started with buttons.

when we first started with them - I had no clue what to expect or do - so I pretty much learned as I went - thankfully it worked well for my buttons LOL

I'm hoping that my future bobbies will call in wild ones because I'd like to see them around here more. Well at all, never seen any wild bobwhites here. Grouse and a random pheasant but i dont consider pheasants wild here...they're from like china after all but bobwhites are native so its sad not seeing them.

my 2 little bobs are doing great - too bad they think they are buttons LOL since they are sharing a brooder right now

how do I tell M from F in bobs ? right now mine are tiny little babies so no way of telling right now
