Lovely pond, and lucky ducks. Sending positive thoughts for your wife in her battle with BC. I am sure the peaceful area you made for the ducks will help her pull through.

to you both

Good mojo sent your way...

Pekins can handle all kinds of anything that gets thrown at them. For the past few weeks here its been 100* and lots of humidity and we are all making it through. Egg production has dropped a bit, and tempers are flaring. Feed consumption is down and no rain in almost a month means no grass or squishy bugs. Not even a hint of mud to be found. Everyone is still present and accounted for, but I'm honestly starting to worry how much longer they can handle this without a good solid rain. Winter is cake after that... If I remember correctly you are in Georgia so your list of subzero nights is pretty short, right? Provide shelter from wind and dry bedding and you're good to go. You will need to provide extra feed during winter if you lose all grass and bugs for them to supplement themselves. The hardest part about winter is the frozen water buckets.

Also, always provide oyster shell and grit.

Thanks for the feedback. So once mating behavior begins ... how long until any eggs are produced? I just want to watch for them, or have the family watch for them, as I travel the entire SE. I am getting ready to build a little 'House' for them that can be closed up when it gets cold but can 'hinge' open in the warm weather.

Phase II is now complete with the weir boxes and skimmer covered along with a reworking of the waterfall on the left side of the pond .... the babies seem to love it!
