If you've already confirmed that there aren't any covenants/restrictions (CC&Rs/deed restrictions) in your HOA agreement, then you'd want to check your city ordinances if you're in a city; if you're not within the city limits, then you'd check with your county about the permissibility. I think you'll find the subdivision HOA typically more restrictive than city or county rules on the topic. Good luck!
