Hello friends!
One of my ladies seems to have embarrassingly developed a dirty floofy bottom. I plan on bringing her in for a butt bath tomorrow after work. Should I use just warm water? Is a little dawn dish soap ok? I’m also going to give her a little mini Brazilian ... a chickzilian?

Bathing Silkies: How To Keep Them Bright & Fluffy! Do you have a Silkie that's looking grubby? Maybe you think your Silkie looks 'flat' rather than the typical poofy fluff ball they used to be? Or maybe you are wanting your Silkie to look it's best for an upcoming show or event...

I just run a few inches of warm water in the bath, put old towels down and have a nice big one to wrap them in after. I find just setting them in there in the warm water relaxes them, and then just let let them have a good soak while you, uh, clean the offending area(with gloves if you are squeamish) until the poop and dirt are all washed off. I then wrap them up like a chicken burrito(cover their eyes if you have a live one and they'll chill out) and leave their bottom out if I need to do a bit of a trim back there, making sure they are nice and dry before releasing them back into the yard. I dunno, all the birds I have with this issue are very people friendly-the pecky one stays clean, thank god. lol

Oh-doing this over the aforementioned towels on the floor is advised unless you want poop on your floor. Hot water relaxes the chicken. Hence, the chicken relieves itself.
So it goes.

Have a great weekend! 😁

Thanks very much! I’ll grab some baby shampoo tomorrow and get this girl cleaned up.

Dawn should be fine, they use it on wildlife in oil spills.

Given that it's winter though, a trim would be easier for you and her, and quicker too.
I probably could have gotten away with just a trim... but she really did enjoy that bath and she loved the blow dryer. And we both enjoyed the cuddle afterwards ☺️
