The shavings could cause interesting plumbing problems. I would cover the drain. Even just a few strips of duct tape could do it or tape some plastic over it. Then scoop the shavings out best you can when your done before rinsing it out.

We just got our first chickens ever two weeks ago. We have been keeping them in the tub. We use pine shavings and for the first two days I put paper towels over them an took them out when they got dirty.

They are getting bigger now so we had to rip a box apart and put the cardboard on the top of the side. we have 25 chicks and its working so far.
