I just got 3 battery hens from a local feed store. So sad! But they're going to have a realllly good life now! They perched I think for the first time yesterday. Looking forward to seeing how they look in a couple of months. Try to adopt some if you can...you'll feel sooooo good! Vera

You will be so glad you did it, they will show you much affection and gratitude. There are a few of us on the forum that have adoped ex-batts. Before and after pics are a must though!

Somebody please clarify for me before I make a silly assumption. "Battery" bird? Does this indicate a bird that has previously lead a life less than idyllic? Perhaps similar to those of dogs and cats that have been abused and are subsequently rescued by concerned citizens?

This is just one of many terms used around here that I'm just not familiar with. Any enlightenment is greatly appreciated!

Any idea how an American can adopt a few? I want to help... but how? It makes me sad to think of their terrible lives. Oh, I want to help!

I am picking up 2 more tomorrow. Also picking up 4 for a friend. I live on Long Island where there are lots of farms with fresh eggs & no egg factories. I've tried finding battery hens, even contacted PETA with no reply. I happened to find these at a local feed store. Don't know where he got them. Check to see if you have any egg factories in your area. These birds sell reeeealy cheap from those places when ready to go to slaughter. Can't figure out how to post pics!
