Bay Area BYCers!

Well Jeremy, beings that you have this neat story, I think you should start the thread!

Well II have one. Was from my own egg.

I tried tapping to get some peeping started, but nothing. I have more from my birds, but I've spent too much money on the others for them to do nothing.

Got 3 BCM eggs yesterday while I was gone. I'm setting those tonight. Nothing else till after I get the Easter hatch set.

Kelsey we love the video. I figured I'd have some Emu by now. Weird how so many things have changed here. If I can hold out a year and find something extra extra cheap, maybe then. If that doesn't work out I guess I'll never get them. At this point just holding onto my dogs, birds and rabbits is making me nuts.

Oh.....I think I'll be able to finally breed Wascal soon. My does have had babies a couple of times each before I got them, but I want Lionhead babies soooo bad. I'm also working on getting a blue eyed white doe. Those two should have beautiful babies together.

Jeremy, I'm glad you didn't stink like creek when I hugged you. LOL

Dude! Stay out of the water. You have chickens, not ducks, so what's up with that??

You need to do a thread on it. I had one going about that cat the other day.

At least the cat hunt turned out to be a funny event, but now we noticed there are 2 more orange cats, so I hope they caught the right one. I'm starting to think there was a litter that just grew up here. I know there was a litter under my house a couple of months ago. The neighbors saw them, but I never did. Sure heard them though.

Maybe using some netting will help keep your birds in. Set it at an angle so they can't figure it out.

I love my Silver chicks, they're hysterical! Zipping around the brooder and falling asleep in your hand.

This is my favorite one, her name is Sleepykinns.

This is why her name is Sleepykins...

How cute it that!!!! I wish that we had the room to have an emu. She sounds like a sweetie!

LOL, she is a sweetie, right now she is content sitting on the couch with DH.

Kim I too have had very very bad luck with shipped eggs this year, especially Serama. Got 12 eggs from another BYCer, that were very well packed, but all but 3 were scrambled, including all the Coronation Sussex, Buff Sussex and Silver Sussex

. I hope my 1 Lav Orp, 1 Lav Silkie and 1 SQ polish make it, they are all that is left.

I was stupid enough to keep trying from August through NY with maybe 16 chicks total. I just couldn't stop ordering eggs, because I didn't want to give up, but all my birds weren't laying. They are now, but I saw those Bev Davis eggs and since my girls ar older, I wanted them sooo bad. At least the one that hatched from my eggs is one from a Davis egg.

Thing is my Olive Eggers didn't hatch and they've been hatching like crazy. I did have to bring up humidity this morning. I hope it hadn't dropped enough to stick them to the shell.

What a close call, Jeremy! So glad that both of you are okay after that experience! Had to laugh at you rushing in to save her without a single thought for yourself (except for your shoes & phone
lol.png
). I thought the same thing about myself the other day when we drove in all that rain to pick up our three little silvers. I told my daughters that I couldn't believe that we were risking our lives driving in the horrible traffic and rain just to pick up chickens! But, I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Debi, did you catch the last part at the end about me having a chick for you?
smile.png

I was in a pretty panicked mind set as I saw her being washed away but I remembered that shoes in the water (at least in my experience) slow you down and my phone would be really expensive to replace (with money that I currently have spent on chicks, so...

) so I knew I had to toss that on the ground before taking "the plunge".

I'm glad you and your girls made it home safely, I hope they are enjoying their new babies! I really LOVE my Silver chicks, they are too cute.

kelseygirl707, I want an Emu so bad! Jealous!

YEAH!!!!! Another chick!!!! How many do you think that you will have for me?

Our little silvers are doing well. I think that the physical therapy worked with the little one with a splay leg. She still has some slightly crocked toes. I'll take a few more pics of her in a bit and post them. We are just calling them number 1, number 2, and number 3 right now. We are waiting to get to know them a little better before naming them. My husband keeps calling the bad leg one Nemo.

Debi, right now there's one in the brooder and 4 more in the incubator, though none have pipped yet.

I'm hoping that at least another will hatch, hopefully 2 more. I set these eggs staggered though and then didn't write the dates on them... I'm kicking myself now because I'm honestly not sure when they should have gone into lockdown.
hmm.png
I know the days were right around the same time, so I'm thinking that a few might be "late" hatchers just because they were set later... I dunno... we will see.

This has definitely taught me to write the date on EVERY egg collected for incubation just as soon as I pull it out of the nest box!

I'll be waiting to hear! We are loving these three and NEED more! I ran out to the feed store in Brentwood and was so tempted to buy a couple more chicks. They have EEs, BA, RIR, and naked necks. I just kept reminding myself and Monet that you would have some more for us shortly. We really would like to add a Welsummer, a Speckled Sussex, and a dark brown egg layer like a BCM to our flock. Now, if I could find a feed store with one of those kind, I would drive an hour in the rain to get them!

Whew! Being a casual Chicken person (as of yet) this has been a busy chicken weekend for me!

I went out to Berkeley and met Wolftracks (so nice meeting you!) to pick up some hatching eggs she was donating to my preschool kiddos. Between her VERY generous donation and the ones that pnp4kidz gave me I should definitely be able to successfully hatch a few babies! And I'm gonna be in big trouble if they ALL hatch, lol! That would be 34 babies to find homes for and you KNOW I won't remember the breeds and crosses of them all by that time either. My daughter is SO excited and told everyone at church today that we were going to have baby chickens in time for Easter... if I mess them all up I think I'm gonna be sneaking to a feed store to find some!
We are having a hard time waiting till tomorrow morning for the other kids so that everyone can help put the eggs in the bator. Not gonna let them turn them so I figured I might as well let them put the first couple in

Then today I clipped wings for the first time. Me and a three year old in her church dress and rain boots running around our soggy run trying to herd and catch chickens I'm sure we were quite a site and I'm glad we only have 4! With the help of my dad we did manage to catch them all and clip their wings. I just got tired of having to clean up the kid's play area EVERY time that they went out to play because the chickens wouldn't stay in their area
sickbyc.gif
blocked off the area under the shed that they were walking through to get there and that slowed them down, but when they really wanted that grass they were flying over my little fence. We'll see if I find any chickens in that area of the yard tomorrow, but I think I may finally be able to put down some grass seed in the bare patches
