Bay Area BYCers!

Been taking notes in a notebook.

I'm a slow typist. Really slow.

I can get you some info. I can't remember what the lines were I was looking at, but I'll find the notebook and let you know.

Will probably be tonight or tomorrow though.

boy this world is just spinning so fast, as it turns out I'm going to breed the mille fleur leghorns again, and so is Mary/The Warden!!

But I really want to learn about the geese and then ask on Monday if they are interested in keeping them at the ranch

hmmmm laptop froze up.

I'm running out, but I'll get back to you on the geese Cheryl.

LOL Back to square one huh? LOL

Wish I had the space. I'd help you guys!

Cheryl, are you and Mary going to have the same stock or will you be getting different lines for outcrossings?

Will you have 4 breeds total now? Buff Laced Brahmas, Silver Pencilled Plymouth Rocks, Coronation Sussex and ...?

You should contact Jean Ribbeck, pips&peeps here on BYC, she raises Sebastopols and I believe has lovely birds.

Do you only plan on getting the White Sebbies or will you be raising one of the colored geese? I believe they come in Buff, Blue, Lavender and Black/Blue shouldered, or something like that. The colored birds though are harder to come by.

These are my 2 blue wheaten ameraucanas that came from Jeremy's eggs.

Per feather sexing at 2 days of age, they are both pullets. The other chick I hatched the same day is a cockerel but is a different breed.

Linda hatched these & gave them to me.

Aren't they gorgeous??

Of course, I'm a little biased...

I love those poofy cheeks!

How do you feather sex them at 2 days old? I typically just wait until about 3 weeks when they start coloring in differently.

With the wing feathers. There will be two rows of feathers. In females, the upper layer is shorter. In males, both rows are the same length. After about 4 days, it is no longer that way. It's a brief window.

I'll have to find the link with instructions and pictures, but I learned it on BYC!

They are so cute!!! We love our BW chicks from Jeremy! Unfortunately, one is definitely a he and I'm pretty sure that the other one is also. We can't keep boys so we are going to have to find a new home for them.

I'm just dragging my feet and hoping that Cosette is not a Marius. He/she is starting to color in darker like his/her brother so my hope is growing thin. My daughter Monet is convinced that he is a she and won't let me call her Marius or even talk about him being a cockeral. This is one life lesson that she is not going to be happy learning.

Both Debi?

Could you post pictures of Cosette? Maybe Monet is right, some pullets feather in a bit darker and can fool you...

I have 21 BW eggs in the incubator that will be hatching this weekend, want to try again? Maybe with the feather sexing Jerrilynn was referring to we can ensure that you get a couple pullets.
