Bay Area BYCers!

I've been up all night.

I heard a noise outside earlier and went out to find out what it was.

I decided to check on the birds and when I went to check my Davis girl, I must have scared them really bad. One of my girls fell from the roast and I think she was alright at first, but she mist have hit wrong. She just suddenly died. I think the flashlight made her panic. I can't believe I went to make sure everything was alright and instead I killed my bird. Too dark to stay out there, so I have to bury her in the morning and my batteries were dying, so I couldn't tell for sure, but I think she was my biggest hen.

Still only have 1 chick out of over 100 eggs and now this.

Oh I'm so sick.

Is there anyone out there who is vaccinating chicks for Marek's this week? My DSO (whattheflock/aka Tim) hatched a single silver Ameraucana chick and doesn't have the supplies to vaccinate the little one. He posted a thread in "Incubating and Hatching Eggs" and didn't get any response (wrong forum, he knows!)

Thanks!

Aw, they look so happy. Where does one get wood stove ash if she doesn't have a wood stove? Also, why do you need to wet the mixture down? Just curious because I think I want one of these for my babies. BTW, my babies are just over 2 weeks old now and I witnessed them dust-bathing a few days ago. So cute!

How are they doing Renee? Any updated pictures?

I just took this today. They're enjoying their first taste of watermelon. Jeremy, the Blue Wheaten in the foreground has darker wing feathers than the others. Do you think I could have 3 girls and 1 boy? Please, oh please.

The three in the back do look to have less black and more creamy Wheaten colored feathers growing in, that's a good indication that they may be pullets. But it still is a bit early to make any positive judgements, give em two more weeks then we'll be able to tell for sure.

I wanted to let everyone know that I will be moving to Southern California in a week. My husband and I will be settling into Fallbrook, which is in North San Diego County. We'll be bringing all our babies with us (wish us luck!). And initially we'll be renting a house, but will hopefully buy something soon, with a bit of land and preferably mature avocado trees. I will miss the Bay Area's conveniences, but we're looking to slow things down a bit, and also save money. I'll also miss hanging out with you guys. You've all been so helpful and encouraging online, and some in person.

I'm sure you won't hear the last of me though. I'll still subscribe to this thread so I can keep tabs on you.

Goodbye Bay Area Peeps!
