Bay Area BYCers!

Ah how sweet, I'm really enjoying them. Unfortunately I'm just not at the ranch enough. I'm in the middle of writing an agreement with the ranch and have put together a revamp of the coops. I'm not sure they will go with the bright colors but I'm going to do a more brick red farm house type coloration as well. Trying to learn google sketchup...it's arduous for sure.

The best part, because they are turning the whole ranch into a permaculture system they have a ton of used wood, chicken wire etc. I couldn't afford to redo my pens if I couldn't use their materials.

That looks like a good setup, especially if those doors open to the outside instead of to each pen. I have some that I made early on where I have to go through each pen to get to the last pen and it is a pain. It is always interesting to me to see how other people set up their bird "cities". I have also found here that my cages have to run north to south as the rain or hot sun usually comes from the west. I have the backs facing west. The coops inside off the ground look exactly like the cages a lot of people use for bantam ducks.

Walt

Looks a lot like my breeder and bantam pens. Each pen has a door to the outside, but I also have internal "people" doors on the bantam pens and internal "chicken" doors on the breeder pens, so that I can turn 2 breeder pens into one larger breeder pen if I want to.

That is a great way to give more options. I look at chickens houses a lot differently now than I did in the beginning. The more flexible the better....

Cheryl I don't think Jeremy was questioning how you raise your birds at all. At least that isn't how I took it, everyone raises differently, the pens really are beautiful. Of course I know some of us wish we could have set ups as such but not everyone has the space. So a lot of us do free range, I think it makes a bit of a difference, but everyone to their own.

I am fine thank you. Trying to talk myself into making decisions before the rainy weather comes. What growing outs chicks are you thinning out? Anything I can't live without?

Cheryl and chooklet I like both of your pen ideas.

I've been trying to get rabbit info today. My neightbors grown corn in their yard this year and since they were clearing I asked if I could have some talks for the rabbits, just trying to find out what to do for sure.

My little skinny cockerel was already chucnky last night so he's back in the brooder. Today I'm working hopefull on the dog run and then a little painting if the wind doesn't start up and make that difficult.

Really ecited about the corn stalks though. Hope someone answers my post.

I saw that a date was up for the get together, so I updated what I could on the California thread.

BTW I've been adding things to the first post there, so was hoping some of you might check it out and let me know if you have any ideas for it.

Maybe a few Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas. I'm still waiting on about 10 pullets to lay their eggs though so that I can try to make some decisions based around egg color... it's kind of hard to cull these birds when they haven't laid yet! I'm hoping they'll start before it gets rainy and the days get shorter, I might have to wait until next Spring then.

I have 3 Heritage Rhode Island Reds right now too, I might sell one of those hens, I've got a bunch of brown egg layers.

I'm actually going down to Bridget's place tomorrow Karen to pick out some birds.

I'm getting a few Black Sumatra pullets for sure, that way I can start working on my Platinum/Dun/Khaki/Blue Sumatra project. I'm VERY excited about those birds!
