Bay Area BYCers!

I always tell people it can work but it won't always you just have to try it and see.

As long as they don't have vaulted sculls you can live and learn. If they do you get brain swelling and its ugh.
Didn't even think of brain swelling when it happened....glad that wasn't the case! She is an odd little chicken, but full of personality that is for certain! We are glad she made it!

hi....
i'm a little overwhelmed with all the things to look at on this site....not super computer savvy to forums but learn in time me hopes!

thanks for saying hi.

I have silkies in San Jose. Not sure what type of bantams you are looking for. I have a few seramas, but they are iffy in mixed flocks.

Welcome Davesteph! I'm in the Scott's Valley woods. I go to Scotts Valley Feed and Mountain Feed & Supply. I find the customer service better at Mountain Feed, but Scotts Valley Feed is decent as well. I personally would get chicks from a breeder or hatch them myself but both these feed stores sell chicks.

HI STEFF!!!!!

Hi
Very new to chickens...but super excited to be doing this next spring! We are moving to Aptos on some acreage and building a coop in the meantime til we get there. We've decided on bantams only. Do you know of any good sources within driving distance to get new chicks.

Great to know people from SC on here!
Steph
Hi Steph - great to see you on here - we are in Felton. We love SV Feed for chicks. But there are many wonderful breeders on here... take your pick! Welcome!

These are the first five out. The kids couldn't wait any longer to hold them.
GORGEOUS Pics and Chicks! Congrats!

So Happy you had better results this time. The hatching learning curve is Super tough sometimes.

Wow, Huge thread. Unable to read all the way through it so far. AWESOME! Very happy to see so many interested people in the area. I have several noobie questions but don't want to cause spam or repetitive stuff here. Just happy to see so many people involved.
My wife and I have started discussing keeping some laying chickens. We are starting a raised planter vegetable garden in our front yard as our backyard has limited sunlight. I was on the ALBC site and between them and Mypetchicken site was thinking on getting some Australorps. Would it be better to have a variety of chickens or stick with a single breed.
Sadly, we cannot have any roosters in San Jose, so figured breeding was out of the picture?
