Bay Area BYCers!

Hey steff I bought tons of scratch sunflower layena and baby, you can buy some of mine at the discounted price if you want, also saw that dublin is having 20% off late January

Cheryl, thanks, though I did get over to Concord feed after all.

Jeremy, so are you selling any of your incubators? Which ones do you like the best? I've still got to buy one for hatching those Barnevelder eggs. I keep watching Hovabators on e-bay, but don't actually bid. I guess I should get off my behind.

Steff, just make your own since you are hatching just this once. I made one out of cardboard boxes when I was teaching science. It worked great! These are one-time use 'bators though.

You already know the secret plan. You've been in on it all year. YOU started it!

Remember those Ameraucanas you had shipped from John Blehm? How quickly we forget!!
Remember the wild swapping and gifting that resulted in whattheflock ending up with a lovely silver pullet and roo?
They have started to get along well. If that little girl ever starts laying (

) I will be incubating some of those eggs.

I was going to use Freckles-the-perpetually-broody-hen for that, but she hasn't gone broody since arriving here.

Hence, an incubator is going to be necessary for more than Barnevelders.

This is what happens in the minds of those of us who can't have roosters.

Just an update on the divas I got from Cheryl. They're getting a pretty impressive level of featuring already. And chasing each other around the brooder for treats. Because the treat Marilyn has is much better, of course, than the dozen sitting there waiting for anyone to pick up.

I'll post a pic shortly of them on their roost.

I should have known better! My incubator (homemade but permanent) will be done in January.

Here they are roosting on their board. They like it up there. They've started sleeping up there at night. Marilyn was busy checking for treats. She's the most outgoing of the bunch.

I had to get them a bigger water container; they were going through water too fast. And here's another of them checking out the weird lady with the cameraphone:

It was for the coop and not being used. So it worked well for the divas. I move it up a little every few days so they have practice hopping up/flying up to it. Gives them something to work those beautiful wings they're growing.
