Bay Area BYCers!

It's raining in Palo Alto, that's for sure.

I open the big door to the coop and set up a canopy as well. This way the girls can be out of the rain, but still see outside. It's cute. Maybe I can get a pic to share.

They all stand around in the straw watching the rain.

I put a bowl of food and treats under the canopy so they can eat and stay dry.

Gee thanks guys!

I moved out here for the heat!

I can't believe you sent this wet stuff passed the Altamount.

I'm too cold and it's to wet to even go out and check the birds, so they better have gotten inside and stayed there. I have a broken door and had to baracade.

Hi Mrs Foote:

I have seven chickens. I had eight until recently. It was strange and sad. I found one of my Leghorns dead alone in the small coop. No trauma, to apparent illness, just dead.

Others on this board confirmed it happens. She was not old and seemed healthy up until that moment.

I have a portion of our property fenced off within the yard, top and sides. Within it are four truit tress and assorted bushes. One large coop and one small coop. So the chickens "free range" within the yard. They have lots of vegetation around.

I keep two watering stations and three feeding stations outside of the coops.

Two sleep in the large coop and rest sleep in the trees. Since I have the yeard covered in netting, the tree sleeping is no longer a problem.

To add to their safety I have 15 Niteguard lights inside and out. These have proven effective over and over even before I covered the top of the run. I had one Raccoon attack. After I got the lights, I never had another attack. I've seen Raccons in other parts of the property and they don't go near the chicken yard. Amazing.

So, that's me.

OH wow awesome I have 3 big girls and a house roo..I know a no no but he isn't loud so I don't see the problem. Hatched a bunch of chicks and am growing out to go to the coop We've seen some HUGE racoons around the house and our neighbors said they're getting in the cat door I've thought about the night guards things but luckily our dogs seem to keep the racoons away.

These are adorable. I miss baby chicks.

We had a beautiful rooster, but my husband was going nuts with the crowing. Zoro (used to be Zoe until we realized "she" was a "he") crowd day and night non-stop.

We found him a great home with a BYC board member who moved to Oregon.

If you or your neighbors have a problem with the raccoons, I highly recommend them. Will keep them out of the cat door, I guarantee it.

Geri--round the corner..
