Anna, I had chickens in Sunnyvale and yes this means you are at the mercy of your neighbors. I bribed mine with fresh eggs though and they were all great! I never tried pushing it with a rooster though while in Sunnyvale. Go talk to your neighbors and see what they think. I asked mine here in Reno and they don't mind a bit but I too am at their mercy. If a neighbor complains they can come out and ask me to rehome my birds. Hopefully you have great neighbors on all sides.

So you have to order a minimum of 10 of each color?

I thought that number was the max you could order of a certain color... not the other way around?

We may have to reconsider our order then, if we can't meet the minimums.

Yep, I changed my mind after I posted above... I can't find a copy of what I sent you... but I'm in for 10 'surplus chicks' & 5 wheatens.

I read his new order form (& FAQ) as no more than that amount. http://chickhatchery.com/DnLd/Order%20Form%20-%20Chicks.pdf
If
I remember right, more of us wanted chicks after Sunny's order was full, but not enough to make the next size order... so don't give up yet!
Thanks!

Yes, but where did this information come from? (If, from the BYC website, that's where I got the idea in the first place that I couldn't have roosters).
But, I was looking at the municipal code page, where it doesn't say anything about roosters.

Anyways - I think what I'm going to do is keep Marilyn until he crows and then decide... and in the meantime, bribe the neighbors with fresh eggs.

Okay - so I drove up to Lafayette today and picked up a companion for Jane - one of her hatchmates that Cheryl still had. (Thank you Cheryl!)

Here's a couple shots of Kate getting reacquainted.

She and the other divas and the Big Girls were all out freeranging today. They seemed to all get along just fine. Yay! I'm looking forward to having the shed remodel done so I can put them all together in their new coop.

Anna that came from the city codes page if you look at the very top of the ordinences it states that before it goes into the break down of the city code. Same thing for Palo Alto....We should get together sometime since we are so close.

That's the way I understood it too. I am going to contact John tonight to finalize the details and find out exactly what the minimum is.

So, let me try to figure this out, you want 5 Wheatens plus 10 of what color? Have you checked out the prices per chick?

Currently:

jeremy- 3 buffs and 3 silvers
wolftracks, 4 lavs, 2 blacks and 2 silvers
Laurieks, 5 wheatens and ?
