Holy cow batman...I win I have a 3 year old and a 18 month old...whis is currently mad at me cuz I wont let her eat gravel or dog food....So one terrible 3 and one almost terrible 2....why I thought this was a good idea i'll never know.

Well technically I don't have any of my own, they are my partner's cousin's children. So yes you win. LOL. They're just living with us for a bit because they're in a bit of transition in their life, so we've got quite a full house...

Eating gravel, that's nothing. When I was like 5 my sister and I had a contest to see who could shove the most gravel rocks from our driveway up our noses... the doctors said I won.

AH HAHAHA Jeremy...still doesn't matter whose they are as long as they are with you on a regular basis...

I can totally see you as one who would stick gravel rocks up his nose....

Thank you. We have so much fun with chicks around.

Jeremy, no scuffle. I have two duffis Marans roos. I had a roll of hardware wire on the porch and it was lossely rolled and they were running through it like little kids. I mean back and forth and when I tried to corral them they'd run back through. Their combs were cut and bloody and I put neosprin on them after I cleaned them good with peroxide and although it didn't look to bad, the next day a piece was hanging. When I went to add some vaseline to them this morning it just fell off. I cried, he walked off to find more trouble.

I love my little Pierre. Him and Regal still have some scabs and I'm hoping they'll be ok now, but I was so bummed.

I swear I have three roo that are on crack. Oh and 2 hens. Geez I guess their all dingy. I almost closed one of the Game hens up in a feed bucket until I saw her in there. Got her out of my garage and went out later and another one had been in there and was pinned between a box and the window. Guess she had fun before that, because 4 boxes from the shelves were upside down and stuff was everywhere.

OH and another Game decided that got into the garbage can when I had it out back throwing a bunch of stuff out. I tossed something in and a chicken came flying out right past my face. One got in the house and was running around my kitchen, so I had a 5 year old chasing while I yelling stop and tried to get her to calm down. Feathers flapping all over and a roast on the counter, which she knocked to the floor. That was a pizza night.

These birds are like really bad kids.

Hi all --

Long-time lurker popping in to finally say hello to all of you Bay Area BYCers. We got our first chickens last August at the incessant begging of my nine-year-old daughter: two EEs, one SLW, one BA, and a tiny little frizzled bantam cochin, three of whom have just started laying within the past two weeks. We got the chickens as pets for the kids (I have a six-year-old son as well), but I absolutely love them! And now that they're laying it's that much more exciting!

One question for those of you in the east bay -- where do you get your feed? I've been buying either at Alamo Hay & Grain or Mike's Feed & Pet in San Leandro. I recently read a thread about bugs in feed, though, and it made me wonder if there are better supply stores around here than others. Any recommendations or places to stay away from?

Thanks!

Hey LilyBee!

I used to go to Mike's in San Leandro too, but I wasn't happy with the quality of feed they carry so I only go to Concord Feed through the tube in Pleasant Hill. The prices are cheaper and I feel the feed is a higher grade.

It's great to have another Oaklander on the thread, where are you in the city?

Hello, fellow Oaklander! I'm up near Montclair. You? Thanks for the info about feed. I'm due for a feed run pretty soon so maybe I'll check out Concord Feed this next time. Mike's has worked out okay so far (and it seems like the closest place), but the staff is definitely not very friendly. I don't mind driving a bit further for quality supplies.
