Bay Area BYCers!

So my Buff Laced Polish hen is gone.

I was not home yesterday evening when it got dark, so we called my partner's younger sister who lives with us and asked her to put away and lock up the birds. Well she must have missed Dorota somehow as she wasn't in the coop this morning when I let everyone else out.

I looked all over for her, with no sign of her dead or alive. My best guess is that she didn't make it into the coop last night and a coon or an owl carried her off. Poor, poor Dorota! She was the absolute sweetest hen and now I have no Polish!!!

I don't know how your friend does it, but I highly recommend slitting the jugular artery on one side, rather than chopping the head off. I can send you a link to a great video, if you like. PM me.

Jeremy??????????
I'm so sorry. Maybe she's hiding. Thinking positive for you.
Wish she had been here making chicks with my Bling

I have 8 CM chicks and 2 of the chicks from the dozen I won in Stockton. They all look the same to me. LOL

I see one more pip, but it's hard to see much in there with fluff all over.

Last two hatches were 100%, so I hope I get lots of babies this time.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Dorota really was one of my favorites, she was so tame and easily handled. Her birthday was next month, too.

I was upset and missing my chickens so I spent a lot of time this afternoon and into the evening outside with them. Here's some pictures from today.

Claude, he's been really cooperative lately when I've tried to take pictures of him, typically he runs in the other direction whenever the camera comes near him!

My Orpingtons have really "grown up" it the past few months, I amazed at their size (mind you, still growing...) and just they are such calm, gentle, easy going birds.

My blue cockerel, still without a name. I don't want to get too atatched because I think he and one of my black pullets may go to live at a new home...\\

I dug up this picture of Dorota, to remember her. She was only a couple days old here.

I keep thinking in the back of my mind maybe she is setting somewhere on a bunch of eggs and in a couple weeks she will come home followed by little peepers.

We'll see...

If all goes well with my current incubation I should have chicks this weekend!!!

Do you want to give up a Polish?

OOOooooooh, Jeremy ... maybe she's just off somewhere and will re-appear in a day or so! Try to think positive, although I know it's hard to do.

Thank you for sharing all those beautiful photos ! We definitely need a mini meet up at your place some day !

It's supposed to be really cold tonight with snow possibly by the weekend ?????
