You're welcome, Jeremy! Thank you for doing all the work that was involved with this order! We made it home with our 3 little silvers! The traffic was horrendous and it took us 1 1/2 hr. to get home. The babies were not happy during the trip and took about an hour to calm down once we got here. They are napping now and it is so cute! I'll take some pics later this evening. I am concerned about one of them. It appears that she/he has some splayed leg issues. Is it just because she is so young? What do you recommend that I do about it? She has a toe on each foot that curls a little bit, also.

They are very, very new still. It may just be getting adjusted to walking. I've never successfully corrected a splayed leg chick, but I know it has and can be done. As far as the curled toes, you can try taping a penny to the bottom of its feet, with tape wrapped all the way around it's little toes to make a "boot". If you tape it so that the toes are spread apart and flat the bones should set that way and correct itself. I have successfully done that.

Post some pictures, maybe the little one is just tired from all of it's travels.

I've never been able to correct or even keep them alive until I started putting them in the cups. Usually doesn't take more than a few hours. The toes I learned when I bought Poly Visol for a lady who had chicks with twisted necks. The toes uncurled too.

They are all asleep right now. It was quite a day for them! I'll take some pics when they wake up and post them. They are so cute!

this egg hatched just fine... taped it with a sample of fancy 3M IV dressing, but a steri strip or tape might have been fine too. The egg got stuck to a cracked egg next to it, & a bit pulled off when they turned (I know, too many eggs in the bator). It was supposed to be a Partdridge Penedesenca, but hatched out a Wheaten Marans...cockerel.

Hello there you two,
My husband was born & raised in Oakland & I was a transplant from here in the San Joaquin Valley & we are back here now but spent our first 2 years when we got married in Alameda. We are retired now & love living in the country for the past 31 years but we are close enough to drive to the Bay Area when we want to. So,......are you two in town with chickens? Here in the town part of my area residents are allowed to have 4 hens, no roosters.................So glad I live in the country instead, but I have friends in town who have wanted chickens in their back yard..............So much fun. I am a hatchaholic at this point.....LOL

The term "organic" is used so loosely these days that the quality of feed is just about the same. Plus, the peace of mind I get by feeding the babies the Purina Start & Grow that's medicated to act as a preventative against things like Cocci makes it worth it to me.

Luke and I had a discussion about the "value" of "organic" feeds not to long ago, it's a bunch of hype if you ask me...

ETA: They're eating medicated starter right now, I hope nobody minds.

I did give them filtered water though!

I agree ..........& have discussed this with others on more than one occassion. You want that medicated starter to get them going at least.
