Bay Area BYCers!

pretty sure it's not bumblefoot.

also, not likely to be internal laying, since she is laying good eggs at a regular cycle. my internal layer didn't have a red abdomen, only terribly swollen.

I ruled bumblefoot out but then I thought today, maybe it's just the beginning stages! I guess time is going to tell. I shut them all up in the run early this evening to keep her confined to a smaller space. Trying to give her time to rest so she can recover.

Thank you, Steph! I've checked for parasites and didn't see anything. I do have some blue kote. Do you think that I should put some of that on her? It is her lower stomach and you can't see it unless you pick her up. I haven't seen any of the other chickens pick on her. She keeps messing with her feathers on her stomach, though.

on the off-chance that what's bugging her is too small to see, I'd go for it.

I just googled both Gentian Violet and Blu-kote, and it appears that Blu-kote has gentian violet as one of the active ingredients.
Here are the links:

All this talk about Splash Marans makes me want to show off my little juvenile roo--Lil' Joe. He is such a pretty boy! Ten weeks old, and watchful of his sibs...But the little Icelandic roo 2/3 his size is kicking his butt!

Anyway, hoping for eggs by Fall...
