There are goats all over Oakland and Berkeley. They've been there since the 60s.
When I was in Junior High, my mom and I saw people walking a goat down our street. I ended up getting one from the same breeder. It was my first goat and it was an African Pygmy.
I had a friend in Berkeley who had goats. Just one day decided to buy some from a farm (yes a farm in Berkeley lol) and not sure what they were. They were meat goats though.
One day he let the church across the street borrow they to clear the area. People saw them and called radio stations and the news channels. He rented those goats out all over the place. That was 1989 same time I lost my house in the quake.
Lots of people in Hayward have them.
Oh and a couple of friends over in the Mission District used to have them too.

I'd love to meet up! Be warned, though, that we're not the speediest cyclists. My partner is partially paralyzed, from a spinal cord injury, and while he's pretty swift while cycling, he does need to take a lot of breaks.
As for bees, they're fun, but seem to have a lot of the same issues as chickens -- potential conflicts with neighbors, overcrowding, freaky diseases. There are some great local beekeeping clubs in the area. Not every club is a good fit, though, because beekeepers can be an odd bunch. (Not me, of course!)
Right now is spring swarming season, and I've already picked up several swarms of feral honeybees.

If I was your neighbor, and you saw a couple thousand bees on your fence, you'd be happy to know me, since I'd come right over and scoop them up!
I was sobbing to my best friend about the brahma situation and she said "why don't you bring them over to my house?" Sharon who lives on the other side of lafayette with more land has been dealing with breast cancer and has been very ill from the chemo. Her home is on an acre+ and we may have the same issue with the roosters but maybe not, as their home is heavily tree'd with neighbors farther apart. She hasn't had chickens, but loves spending time with mine, so I think their presence will be healing. I'll go over their daily and do all the work needed so it will give us more time to spend together.
We are going to take out a huge dead tree, do a ton of yardwork and really make it nice for her since she's been so sick she hasn't paid any attention to her yard. It's a mess so it will my joy to bring it back to life. Paul Pleece is going to take apart the coop he built at my house, take it over there and build a run. It surely won't be cheap but will be nice for Sharon and I to spend more time together. Hope it works out. The older rooster's wattles are now getting larger and red, so crowing is surely on it's way
