Omega, my Delaware, is getting to be so bossy! She's even pecked at Cheryl's Orpingtons which are bigger than she is, especially when they are getting ready for bed on the roosts. There's no overcrowding, but the pecking order idea shows up at bedtime.

Hatching Sir Giles Coronation Sussex babies this week! Here are the first 3, sounds like r more will hatch.

We're going to our first show later today! We're taking a pair of meat birds and my son's pretty SLW rooster Murray. We bathed them all last night and kept them in crates in the living room - good morning, 4 AM. Thanks Murray. The meaties are being quiet, at least.

It's a 4-H show at the Los Banos Spring Fair. The auction is at 6 today, if anyone wants to come. The meaties are Freedom Rangers, and they're huge, dressing out around six pounds on the others I've processed. I will process these for the buyer if they want.

Well, I've got MORE good new to report!!

I had put a call into a ranch we have here in Lafayette a few weeks ago, when I was desperate for a solution to my brahmas....didn't hear from them for a week so I assumed be bringing my breeding flocks over wasn't of interest to them...it's called Siena Ranch and they run many cool school and education programs on 22 acres. http://www.siennaranch.net check it out very cool!

Fast forward..I went to visit Melinda the caretaker of all the animals...chickens (about 40) goats, sheep, alpaca, horses, bunnies etc. She showed me around the place, I loved it instantly and she was so excited we could maybe do this. I talked about my being able to hold classes for the kids etc, we could incubate/hatch educate etc.

So I got her stamp of approval and then the owner called me this afternoon! As it turns out they had just recently contracted with a company that was doing plans for all new coops, barns etc for the various animals and making it a truly sustainable urban ranch. She was so excited about the idea of having my brahmas, silver pencilled plymouth rocks & mille fleur leghorn breeding flocks there! She invited me to a meeting on monday with the urban architects to help plan the new site for the chicken coop including 3 coops/runs for my breeders.

It's really a dream come true. I get land, I get to breed, I am going to exchange education and marketing/promotions for the ranch. My flocks will be lovingly cared for and I'll be able to move forward breeding these cherished breeds.

Additionally spent the whole day sprucing up Sharon's yard, weeding 4 foot tall weeds, planting flowers, moving furniture and I'm still going to keep some girls there, so we are moving a coop and Paul is building a run for them. She really loved the idea of having them there, spending more time with me while she's battling cancer and making her yard gorgeous. So I couldn't disappoint her even though I found this other solution. As soon as we can get the coop/run assembled at her home, I plan to move over 5-6 of the juveniles I have-mottled javas, wheaten marans, giant blue cochin, splash marans, welsummer!
