Sorry, that was worded kinda funny.

Any ideas on what new breed you'll be raising at the ranch.

New to you, not like a new variety.

I've got 25 silver laced, gold laced & buff laced brahma eggs in the bator now so maybe i'll do a 2nd color

Oops forgot silver sussex, if there is room, I have the makings of a really nice Greenfire flock

Hm, perhaps I'll choose a different color of Marans then.

Though the Wheaten/Blue Wheaten birds have always been my favorite.

on another topic entirely...

My chicks are now 2 1/2 weeks old, and need their leg bands changed. How the heck do I get those little spirals off by myself? I know it can be done, because I saw Cheryl do it on one of her chicks when I was at her house, but I didn't pay close attention.

I really need to get those things off. I'm sure it's going to be a treat to get past those mama hens.

For all you chicka holics....
One of the babies looks to be a wheaten penedesenca roo of dubious origins. He's big and purty!
Is he of any use to those of you crossing marans and penedesencas?

So I'm being a worry-wart again. I noticed that for the past several days my Del has been taking a LONG time to lay her egg. She used to take about an hour, but now she's taking about 2.5 hours! Is this really unusual? Is this something I need to worry about? It's a normal medium-sized egg, and she seems fine afterward. Could the warmer weather be the cause (though I don't see how)? It's a good thing I'm sick, or else I'd really be stressed

Thanks all.

Use cuticle nippers to snip the bands - usually need to snip in two places, and the pieces of the band just fall off. Not great for reusing, but much easier on the little tykes than trying to pry the bands off in one piece. Plus the bright shiny object (the cuticle nippers) might distract the mamas from the fact that you are kidnapping and torturing their babies.

By the way - the piano has gone off to King Middle School - thank you so much for arranging!

Thanks for the response, Steff. She's never been egg-bound, but I'm worried that it may lead to that!
