Okay Kim, I feel out of the loop here. What are you putting on Craigslist??????? huh, huh, huh?????????? Is it anything I might need????? As if I need anything more.....LOL
Denny is supposed to be driving up in the morning for the poultry auction to drop off birds. She hasn't called yet. She probably will when she is on her way in the morning.

my silkies are straight run. i have been trying to see if any have more roo personalities but i have only seen 1 that is more adventurous and even he is pretty mellow compared to the buff orps and the EEs. the others are pretty mellow and hang with the hens.

Hi! WolfTracks has just directed me here to the Bay Area thread. I am in Pleasanton. Newbie. Have 4 girls and we are having so much fun. I am confused about all the big heavy wood coops I see being sold. I know they need to be put up and safe at night but they look like they would be hot in the summer. I think I am missing something. Right now we have a beginner Ware coop and 2 Ware runs. They are very fine for now but I can see in the near future they will out grow it.
thanks

Ah.......glad you found us. Yep you're missing something. LOL

The big coops usually have lots of ventilation, but safer for the birds. The coops also provide shade. You'll learn a lot about chickens and ways to care for them here. We'll help ya!

So what kind of birds did you buy and how can I add to your chicken math. LOL

Really, I'm glad you found the thread.

Karen I doubt it. I hatched out my mixed. The BCM x Games, EEs and OEs. Got one little chipmunk. Need to find them all homes except that one. I may have something for you if these BCMs hatch in the next day or 2. Having a hard time getting them out of the shells.

I do have my pretty little bantam roo I think I'm dropping at the auction tomorrow. I hate to, but I have no place for him. The guys don't want him in their way, he's not getting near any of my girls and I figure he's so pretty he may get a nice owner who loves him. Also on the edge of taking one of my d'Uccle roos. Keep saying I'm going to do it and then don't.

So adorable! I can't wait for my broody to hatch her eggs (still 2 more weeks). I have 6 of Jeremy's eggs and 5 BCM eggs from clio's friend. If they all hatch, I honestly don't know what I'll do with all those chicks. In retrospect, it might've been wiser to go your route

Thank you, Renee! I'm going to go the egg route next time. I just waited too long this time. Be sure to post pics of your mama with her babies! There is nothing cuter than a mama chicken and her babies!

You will love the chicks from Jeremy! We have one BW pullet and one BW cockerel from him. They are the sweetest birds! It is going to be hard to give up the cockerel. We are hoping that he doesn't crow for a long time so we can enjoy him for a while longer!

Kim, thank you for letting me know how our little guy is doing! Remember that you can change his name! He was our first roo and thus earned the nickname Trouble. Maybe you should pick something less negative so he has a good name to grow into!

My 8 chicks left in the brooder were pretty subdued acting last night and this morning. I think that they are missing their top chick. He did his best to keep them in line! Give him a hug for us and thank you again for giving him a chance to live!

I intend to change it, but he needs a really good one, so I'm waiting.

Another crazy day. I have to go back to Brentwood and pick Makayla up. Dakotah's last day of school is thursday and then I'm dropping my poor car off at my machanic for two days and I'm hibernating with the chickens.

First I'm running to the PO. I waiting for an egg shipment saturday, which made me late. The regular carrier didn't work that day and the guy that delivers when she's off doesn't bring my packages to the door, because I own dogs. They don't have to be out, he just won't deliver. Plus he was rude before he even realized they lived here.

So I have 12 new babies from this weekend and more eggs due today, but my humidity dropped and I'm a little paniced that my BCMs are not going to hatch. They were too hard to candle, but I know there has to be someone in all those eggs.

One of the Welsummer chicks I bought from Half Moon Bay Feed & Fuel back in April seems to be a 'roo. I'd love to re-home him with a posse of pretty little hens to hang out with, but if he's destined for the stewpot, I'd like him to go somewhere where he'll have a pretty good time until "that" day arrives.

Would anyone be interested in him? I have a car and am willing to drive at least an hour to get him to the right home.
