I folks. Friends found this chicken wandering around Arastadero and El Camino Real in Palo Alto. They brought her to me as they didn't know what to do with her and would not just walk away from a potentially and probably terrible situation with this poor little thing.
We both scoured the neighborhood trying to find where she came from, with no luck.
I really can't keep another chicken and would like to find her a good home. She seems young and healthy. I have her sequestered, of course.
Can you suggest her breed and is there anyone out there in the Bay Area who would like her. I'll bring her to you.
Hi Should I Worry?
I have watched birds in this backyard for 30 years. Now that the hens are in their new coop/run today a HUGE big old turkey vulture, the reeely big black ones with the red head and huge wing span flew down into the tall pines and hid. Honestly. I know he was hiding. I thew pine cones at him and now he/she is sitting on top of the house behind us and probably with a better view from in the tall pine.
I have never seen one come into my trees tho are around here. the fact that he sat there, and it is raining, and did not shoo off made me concerned.
Does anyone have any report of them bothering pullets or full grown hens?
gosh, they are ugly. and huge.
thanks for any info.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU BackYardChickens.com and Forum
This is the second time you have come to my rescue.
Several years ago I got a baby chick that turned out to be a rooster. Basically Zoe became Zorro.
One of the board members who had moved or Oregon and had a farm adopted Zorro when
he saw my post about Zorro needing a new home. He worked in Mountain View and came
down to the Bay Area once a month.
This time I rescued an adorable hen, but I'm really over my legal limit---shhhhh.
One of our members adopted her today.
What can I say, but this a wonderful place to be and has been for me for a very long time.
Turkey vultures are not aggressive. They are magnificent flyers, and just imagine how revolting things would smell if there weren't animals that ate roadkill.
Hi All,
Remember the property I mentioned a while ago? The bank is about to take it. After this Thursday they won't be allowed to make payments on it.
So, if anyone is still interested, here is Martin's letter about it.
I believe they will consider ANY offer.
Alternatively, if you have tips on surviving foreclosure, please let us know.
I'm out of funds to help them.
<<Dear Friends,
Somewhere, there is Someone who is looking for property just like the property we have for sale here in Sonoma County, California.
We would deeply appreciate your help in finding that Someone. Even if you personally don't know that Someone, it is very likely that a friend of yours knows a person who does know the Someone who will fall in love with this special land.
Please forward this email to your friends, and ask them to send it on and ask their friends to forward it so hopefully we can find the person who is looking for us.
We have just finished a website that gives information about the property and has lots of pretty pictures.
