Bay Area BYCers!

The black male could probably eat a small cat.

Well then you have to breed them bigger, bacause I have some big cats around here that eat chickens. Maybe mixed with Emu or Ostrich.

Even a big cat would be crazy to take one of these on. Back before the electric fences I had cats as predators. Now I can hear them inside the house when they hit that wire. Haven't heard one scream in 10 years or so.

Well send that black cockerel over here for a week or two. I'm not feeding him though. His full diet will consist of cats.

Sooo Hows that car doing? You can drop that by here too

What is the heigth of the Shamos? I thought I saw 1or 2 at the Santa Rosa show but they were way small. Come to think of it I was distracted & never actually looked at the cage card, maybe they weren't even Shamos. I was thinking Shamos were like 30 or 32" tall?????? I think Illia raises them.

Pushing 30" right now. They grow for three years. They look small because they are compared to mine, but the females are a lot smaller than the males.
Mine are really bigger than they should be and I like them like that. When I show a male I have to put a 4" board around the cage to lift it up high enough so that the bird can stand upright. A cock should be 11# and hen is 7#. That bird will go past 32".

Edited to stay out of trouble...hahaha..... Don't believe everything you hear on this site. Illias birds are from some hatchery.

This is my mouser.....except that is really a rat. That kind of gives some scale to this wheaten female

This bird is 34" tall

My grown son who is my chicken helper wants Malays because he thought they were bigger than Shamos? Is that true.?? To my untrained eye they look alot alike. I try to help find the breeds he wants because he is such a help to me. I wouldn't be able to have all I do have without all his help.

A Malay is: C-9lbs H-7lbs..... Shamo is: C 11 lbs H 7 lbs. Both breeds can have giants, so it depends on the strains. You don't often see real Malays or Shamo's.

New pics of the silver pencil rocks and the mille fleur leghorns. Thanks for looking.

Pretty happy with the decisions on what to keep on the silver pencils (with Walts help) The white banded girl is my absolute favorite. They are heavier than my first trio. They are only 5 1/2 months so they still have a long way to go.

Mille Fleur Leghorns. Hope I end up with something to work on here. They sure are pretty but need work! fun! Only 3 1/2 - 5 1/2 months old so plenty of time.

Picking up Dakota this morning. Breeder says he's the size of a large toaster! Oh my I can't believe we are getting a small dog, at max he'll be 30 lbs. Hope Toby (80 lbs) & Cooper (70 lbs) react well today. They are such gentle souls so should be good.

I'm taking two of my other silver penciled rocks to the breeder for her flock. If you want to check out the breeder website it's www.goldengatelabradoodles.com

Just got back from the Heirloom Expo last night! Meeting together for brunch was fun! Thank you, Dawn, for setting it up! It was nice to meet people and now have faces to go along with the names. I had fun hanging out with Sandy, Jeremy, and Carlos! Somehow, I missed seeing you, Cheryl!

We bought tickets for all three days and camped at the KOA in Petaluma. It's a very nice campground complete with chickens, peacocks, goats, sheep, donkeys, and horses. We loved hearing the roosters crow in the morning!

If they have the expo again next year, it would be fun to camp as a group! Hint, hint, hint!

You are welcome! It was great to share stories, get advice, mull over things together! Next year I can have a dinner up here at my Finca (farmette) in Healdsburg. That would be fun!

Cheryl, gorgeous photos! The silver pencil rocks are stunning. That pullet has "a kind eye"!

Debi - Camping would be fun! It is a great KOA. It is one of my favorites ranking up there with one up north where each spot is amongst the redwoods! We should definitely try to get a group motivated to camp next year!!! I'm sure we could bribe a few folks with s'mores!!!

Cheryl - The puppies are cute!!! I'm so excited for you! Nothing like a little pup in the house! Especially a soft fuzz ball. Well, maybe chicks! And after seeing your pictures of your silver pencil rocks I may have to add them to my wish list .......
