Ron, glad to hear your other birds are safe, sorry for the one lost though.

Cheryl, have you had such luck with hearing back so quickly about your Black Orpington? What was wrong with her?

I'm probably one of a dozen chicken owners in the whole city(population 44700) ....

I have a very small "flock" of two pullets. One Barred Cochin and a Speckled Sussex.

I'm hoping to get five or six fertilized eggs next spring and stick em under my cochin when she goes broody, in hopes I'll get 4 hatched. 6 would be my ideal flock size.

The feed store I go to is Concord Feed's dublin branch. I don't know if there are any others that are better or what, but I'd be interested to know. Are there any other San Ramon BYCer's?

I've been to the Concord Feed store in Dublin, I liked it. The store was big and clean and they had what I needed.

I have a Barred Cochin too, this is my Lola.

Cute!

I wanted a Cochin for the same reason, an insta-bator! Having a broody raise chicks is SO much easier than doing it yourself in a brooder.

Oh Jeremy,
Are you hiding something???? How did you get that beautiful Olive green egg. What cross did you use? Maybe I have the chickens to do that same cross & if not there is a new chicken in my future.....LOL

I'm a sad chicky mama today

out of the 100 plus chicks we have brooded this spring/summer we lost our first one last night. It hadn't been right for about the last day, and we didn't know what was wrong. Temp was right - and no one else was complaining. ... no pasty butt ... everyone's stool looks normal we made her some boiled egg yolk and some yogurt to try to get her to eat with some success, gave her some polyvisol thru a dropper in water (no iron) but something wasn't right. She had been chirping non stop for about 15 hours and must have been using all her energy to do that as I found her twice in the middle of the night last night while checking on her on her back sleeping, I picked her up loved her and righted her after giving her a couple drops of vitamin water. I slept for about 2 hours this morning and woke up to her on her back dead

There were a lot of tears involved in our get ready for school rituals this morning, I cant believe how bad it feels. I know this sort of thing happens, but I cant help but worry about the remaining lil guys and girls.

LOL, I'm mostly just feeding her foodcoloring Karen.

I actually don't know what is behind her breeding, I got her as a POL pullet from Luke down in Santa Cruz. The next time I chat with him on the phone I will ask and see if he knows.
