Cheryl ...another question about the Buff Laced Brahmas. As I've noticed from all the pictures I've seen maybe you can validate this. The Males the wings are almost the solid buff colored, whereas when the females feather the wings show the lacing...correct?

The coop itself is fine, it's dry as a bone...

It's the flash flooding that we're worried about this year, if it rains persistently this winter the water level might overflow the creek bed and then the creek would flow into our property. There's really not much we can do to fix this situation, other than move the Orpingtons and their coop from the lower level where they're housed now to the upper level of our backyard... but that's where all of the gardens are currently located. Either that or somehow raise the earth up a few more feet.

I don't see that happening though.

It's got me worried.

Could you build an earth berm to keep the water away from your property? Or sandbags?

IBD Virus - Education/Discussion by UCD, CDFA in Sonoma County.
Posted by: "petersonpetaluma" [email protected] petersonpetaluma
Date: Thu Oct 6, 2011 11:02 am ((PDT))

The below notice was circulated to Sonoma County 4H Leaders. It is open to all interested poultry people. If there is a great interest in this event, they will hold it at the 4H Center in Rohnert Park. If not, it will be at the 4H office as listed in the notice. PLEASE RSVP to [email protected] so they can plan for the number of people.

VERY IMPORTANT FOR POULTRY LEADERS…….UC Davis Professor to discuss Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) in Sonoma County Poultry
The bursa of Fabricius is an extremely important organ in the immune system of birds. The bursa is present at hatching and through the early life of the bird before gradually disappearing when the bird reaches sexual maturity. The IBD virus destroys the bursa and thus causes the bird to be greatly susceptible to other (i.e. secondary) infections such as E. coli, Salmonella, coccidia, and Marek's disease.
A unique strain of the IBD virus is present in the Sonoma area of California.
Researchers and veterinarians from UC Davis, The Ohio State University, the California Department of Food andAgriculture (CDFA), and the U.S. Dept of Food and Agriculture (USDA) have been working with the local poultry industry in order to understand the ecology and epidemiology of the disease.
Specifically, understanding how the disease was introduced and how it spreads will be essential toward effectively managing IBD in the future.
CDFA, UC Davis, and UCCE will be co-hosting an educational meeting at the UCCE office in Santa Rosa on Tuesday November 1st at 5:30pm regarding IBD. Dr. Beate Crossly from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and the California Animal Health and Food Safety Lab (CAHFS) will present a brief description of IBD. In addition, she will discuss resources available to backyard bird owners with sick birds.
Please RSVP with me at [email protected]. I have to know how many people are coming to see if we can all fit in the conference room or if we need to move the to the 4-H Center

I have a friend that rescues chickens, bunnies and well just about anything that needs rescuing!

She has two adorable purebred bunnies that she would like to find a home for.

The first one is a large Holland Lop, female brown 1 1/2 years old and the 2nd is a Netherland Dwarf white w/ black eyes, female 5 months old

Let me know asap if anyone would like them. They are free to loving home

I use my rabbits for breeding or I'd say yes.

OK everyone you need to get busy posting if I have to wait for the 7k post. LOL

Cheryl that was sweet letting Deb have the 6k post.

Wish I hadn't over slept.

Honestly, I wouldn't even need to buy a pullet either... I have a trio of Heritage Rhode Island Reds that are beautiful birds, from a very old strain in Texas.

I could just put the male with these lovely ladies and the project could be underway...
