Bay Area BYCers!

It sucks we still have chicken thieves today.

I'm still so sad when I think about Bon Jovi being stolen. They ripped the framework up and snatched him through wire! There are so many people with chickens around here, I just know he's close by. I showed his son to a neighbor and he asked if Bon Jovi looked just like Little Jovi and I told him the differences. Little Jovi's mom is one of my FBCMs, so darker hackles and feathered shanks. Him and his friend looked at eachother and he said if he found out where he was, he'd get him back for me. I think they might know. Lots of fighting birds in my area. They all know eachother, so I think they've seen him, but I'm waiting for them to say it. They've always been nice to me and his 3 Kelso's freerange my new lawn and I just watch them. I know what he does, although I don't know much other than that and I don't cause trouble around here, so maybe I'll find out where my baby is.

I think I found out where the quail that disappeared went. I've seen mice since I've been here, but cleared them out. I found rat droppings in my garage. tThen I was a few white feathers caught in a spider web. I set Decon out last night and even in my house in case they try to move this way. OMG I hate rats! Funny thing is I keep feed in buckets on the back porch. There's nothing out there for them to be drawn too other than my brooders. First cats now rats. uck.....rats make me literally sick to my stomach. Made myself sick just thinking about them.

That is why I have an excellent Rat catching Cat. She is our pet as well. But we have them get into the rafters and she takes them right on out. Next door neighbors did construction and tearing up the house sent all their rats to our yard. At one point we had like 40-50 rats in our yard. Now I have no issues with pet rats or mice owned both growing up, however roof one are a completely different story. They'd go stand on the coop and stare at me, get the food. It was horrid. So my dad got 12 traps rigged them with Hotdogs when the birds went to bed. First night caught 16 rats in 12 traps. Second night 9....3rd night like 5 after that they learned a lesson and moved out. I also got to take shovel duty...whacked a few like that.

I live in the country & have tons of mice but have never seen a rat. I had a rental in town that hat rats. They called them roof rats & they lived in an Italian Cypress tree at the corner of the house in the backyard. I had an exterminator in & we cut that tree down too & haven't had anymore trouble there. Always something.
Today we are moving chickens. Aaron has already moved the first group of Ameraucanas , the Black Split to Lavender & the Blues & Blacks. I am headed out there to separate Harry's Lavenders out. I am so happy to give them so much more space.
Aaron & I came up with a 6' x 6' 2" by 3'' frame that we stretch black plastic coated poultry wire on for the top of the pens. I think these will work well & we can make as many as we need with little cost because I already have the rolls of wire. So far so good.

I thought I would post some pics for you of the babies Cheryl, they hate the camera aka my phone so they aren't the greatest. They are outside for a few hours a day in preparation for their big move in a couple weeks. Today they are with the layer flock visiting lol but they are in a 6 by 6 green cage because I am running sprinklers in the other mini pastures to encourage that grass to grow some more while we have sun

You can see the poor lil golden laced (as Jordan calls her) in the corner and the lone ee.. Jordan sings this song to the golden laced "One of these things is not like the others, One of these things just doesn't belong, Can you tell which thing is not like the others By the time I finish my song?" She was big sesame street fan lol. The golden laced girl stands out like a sore thumb.

Pretty babies

I haven't owned a cat in years. Bill and I got my mom one several years ago and he's still there with her boyfriend and my brothers. Wiley is probably the last cat that I will have anything to do with. I take that back. We were evil and brought two more of the litter. One was my now 24 year olds cat, Gabby and just to bug another daughter we gave the other to our grand daughter, so Skittles was actually the last one we picked up. All litter mates. Wiley is the only one still around.

I used to have show cats. If I got another one, I'd hope that is why, although a Maine Coon Cat would be awesome for hunting rats and mice. I used to love cats. Never as much as dogs, but I always had one. Then I met someone who had a cat and never cleaned a litter box. Then I have a house that I spent a ton of money and time on and had a beautiful garden full of flowers. Nothing I did detoured the cats. That came from near and far to smell the flowers and leave their mess. I had 12 Rotties and nothing I cleaned up every day smelled like what those cats did. Once our last one died, BTW they never went in the flower beds, they used at dirt under a tree in the drive, I never got another. But when I married Bill I inherited Salem. The evil jealous cat from satan.

I chase cats form my yard daily. I've had them kill two brooders full of chick, so close to 200 total and they've turned my tolerance and dislike to hate since I've lived here. I do however love the calico that Karen asked if I wanted. She's been around birds too. hmmm No! no more cats. She's beautiful though. darn it.

I will be sure to make sure you have at least one in your flock next spring <3

Monster is adjusting to being the head rooster and he is a good boy. I had to rehome my gorgeous speckled sussex boy you saw when you were here, he took to attacking us every time we turned our backs....especially when we were collecting eggs....I tried to stop it with several suggestions from this site but he just got more aggressive with every attempt

How many?? My Polish are NOT good layers.

4! One to lay the egg, one to coach, one to sing along with the egg song and one to make noise at the back door to let you know what's going on.

That's the way mine did it.

LOL!!!! That's cute
