I use the cartons too when I put them onto the hatcher shelf. It keeps them upright & absorbs some of the mess. I have had good luck with it & clean up is easy I through the cartons away & use new ones for next time. I always use the carboard rather than the styro.

I will try that on my next hatch. It's a pain to clean up!
 
They stabilize the egg so when one starts pipping it stays that way whereas if they are rolling around you can lose some because the hatched chicks will roll the pipped eggs over and they can'tale it out. You end up opening the bator too much because of this

When the new babies are born I brood them in my master bathroom. These 3 are being kicked to grow out pen outside. lol They are the last 3 babies I got from my little pullet that dosen't lay anymore eggs. I sure wish she would start back up.

Oh i want like a dozen or more of those. I have always just loved Polish and these little guys are tooo cute!
