Bay Area BYCers!

Steph I'm so sorry about your girl. Just really sorry.

Also sorry about all the citations (she says as all the roos are crowing at the storm). I hope everything works out. I had this problem when I had my Rotties. You never heard a bark out of my yard unless something was wrong. I had 2 cops living 2 doors away and they had 2 GSDs that never shut up. My neighbor over my fence knew it wasn't my dogs, but due to my next door neighbor being at my house when their hot tub went in and the woman running naked and jumping in to her yelling "ORCA!" I paid for it. She even removed boards in the fence so my dogs would go into her yard. Said they did $1400 worth of damage to her lawn furniture which didn't even have a toothmark. Then she gets a friend 2 blocks away to ccomplain about the barking. AC would show up and say "yep, at it again." Then he'd go out back and play with my dogs and puppies and make sure she heard him say that some people just don't have a life so make it hard on others. I had 12 dogs at one time and everyone thought I had one because I'd work them one at a time. I had to go to the courthouse once about it and when I got there I had 7 neighbors that were sitting there waiting for me to be seen and talk to them to let them know the lady just didn't like me. We walked out with the person I had to meet with (not a judge) and a judge going on my waiting list for pups.

I am SO HAPPY for you!

BTW you better hide the Polish or I'll make a visit and snag some. LOL
Have I told you how much I love my new sportsman? I went from 10% hatches to 100%! I wish I would have bought one sooner. Can I share some pics? Lol
This was a part of my Easter hatch (18 bantam polish and 3 silver pencil rocks)

And these were from Cheryl's eggs. So puffy!

And then I had these hatch today. Olive eggers and marans from Karen:

I can't wait to grow these out and add them to my layer flock. Thanks Karen and Cheryl for sharing your eggs! Also Karen if your daughter still wants a blue polish I'm sure I will have one for her soon! I have about 50 polish chicks I am going out.

Oh, no need to defend.....as I said, I have so much too learn! I asked because I want to know why they would be so expensive, especially without knowing fertility. I'm sure people who know the breed won't blink an eye but the average chicken owner might wonder why, hence my question!

Good luck on your 22 eggs! Thanks for the explanation, I'll have to do some further research on the breed to better understand the market value. What other breeds are in this category?

In defense of the cost of the eggs, even if you just hatched 1 or 2 you have covered your costs many times over for the cost of the live birds. I am sure these birds were very expensive to bring over & I think that is no longer possible. I consider myself blessed to have a pair myself. Even with the trade we made for 1/2 of the asking price they are the most expensive birds I "personally" have ever bought. I am not complaining........ I love them & owe hatching eggs as part of the deal when they prove fertile. I just trimmed the bottoms of my Buff APA trio yesterday hoping to start getting fertile eggs.

I am blessed to have 22 eggs in the incubator right now from the same original US breeders that my beautiful pair came from. I can imagine the gene pool is rather small. I have high hopes for them I would so like a Splash in the mix.

If someone hopes to make any money or cover their operating costs I know they would have to have a good market & ask a high price. I spend way more money than I bring in & so just consider it my retirement pleasure. I certainly haven't figured out how to actually come out ahead financially.......LOL

So happy for you that you did so well Sarah....Whoo Ray.!!!!!!! for you.
I just picked up 17 chicks from the P.O. that came clear from N.Y. from Marsquiella. I am always on the hunt for darker eggs. She sent 12 BCMs & 5 Blues all fat & happy on arrival. They left N.Y. yesterday at 1 p.m. our time & arrived in Turlock by 1 this afternoon.
I am so glad they came after our terrible power outage. I would have been worried over them but the power is back on after being out over 6 hours & all is well.

Karen do you remember those Greenfire eggs I won at the chicken stock? The pair of birchin Marans started laying this week.

can't wait to make babies!
Congratulations on your girls laying. How's the color on thier eggs? From what I've read on Bev's site, of the Marans, the Birchen doesn't lay the darkest eggs but they're working on improving it, that's why I ask. SunnyDawn is giving me some Marans, can't wait to add those beautiful dark eggs to my egg carton!

Many of you know that I've been looking for a better roo for my silver pencil rock pen. I received one last week, but I'm not happy with his look.

However I found a great flock from another BYC member. They are being shipped to me at the beginning of May. I'm so excited. They are young at only 7 1/2 months but Walt thought they have great potential!! I'm getting these 2 roos and 2 nice big girls...
