Baytril 10% Dosage in water- Help please

Welcome To BYC

What are the symptoms you see?

Do you have a photo of the product? Where did you get the Baytril from?

Baytril 10% Liquid (a pictured below) can be given orally to each bird. Dosage is 0.05ml per pound of weight given orally twice a day for 3-5 days.

Hi There,

Thanks for the reply. We bought the product you have there online. The symptoms were sneezing, we had a nother pullet in the same pen and she had a severe upper respiratory issue, and despite taking her to the vet (emergency) she did not make it. We had quarantined her. Then - deep clean of the pen but the other two then started showing some of the symptom - but were just occasionally sneezing. We treated with Vetrx twice a day and seemed to help but at time went on decided to try a antiobiotic after a period of 7 days . We also have been giving electolytes / vitamins mixture in the drinking water that I closesly monitor for cleanliness

My concern now though is if I will be able to integrate these pullets into our flock given they had been exposed to a upper respiratory disease. My understanding , is that chickens dont get colds per say - but instead its potentially a disease they can carry their whole lives. They have not shown the more severe symptoms - no wheezing etc. My hope is that they continue to gain weight and have decent energy levels.

I'm sorry that you lost one, did the vet send any samples in for testing so you can find out which respiratory disease you are dealing with?

If birds are just sneezing occasionally, I would not treat them with an antibiotic. While medication may help with secondary infection - you are not really seeing symptoms correct?
Up to you though - do your research.

Knowing what disease you have is always a good idea. Yes, most respiratory diseases do make birds carriers for life. Those that are exposed but never show symptoms are considered carriers as well. Unless great care and bio-security has been observed between you, the sick pullets and your existing flock - likely all have been exposed. It can be hard to know down sometimes who gave who the illness as well. Sometimes an existing flock can be carriers and it's transmitted to the newbies. Anyway...I would consider them carries.

Thanks for all the input, we appreciate it.

We didnt get any results on the specific strain or issue unfortunately. All they did was give her a shot of antibiotic. And, now - in hind sight we realize she wasnt actually treatable at the time. The pullets seem to be stopping sneezing. But, one has developed swelling around the eye. We are trying to find a vet

Where are you located?

If you don't find a vet and the pullet is not getting better, then try the Baytril that you have or order some Tylosin.

I would also monitor the swelling to make sure pus is not building up in the eye.

We did manage to get her to a vet who recommended 2 drops baytril per gallon per day. She did clear up both her eye and symptoms. Thank you Wyorp Rock
