What is the laying potential of a BB White (I think that's what I have)

is it worth even talking about? I have a 4 month old broad breasted white Jenny, and wondering when she will lay and how often?

Im sure she would possibly lay come next spring if she made it that long. BBs are meant for meat not eggs and the weight puts a strain on them especially their legs and their hearts. Most people do not keep the BBs past 4-6 months. You would need to decrease her food intake and monitor her daily. Most people would get a heritage turkey for eggs or breeding.

I didn't get her for eggs, breeding, or meat... I just wanted a turkey, and there she was, for sale in the feed store! LOL

I am aware that they have weight issues, she lives in a flock of chickens, so she does get a good amount of food, but she can run, jump off the porch and "fly" (or coast) 10 feet away, so she's still nimble and athetlic, but boy does she grow fast.

I'm attached to her like a pet, it'll be a real SHAME if she has to be put down :(

Turkeys are great! I hope she stays healthy for you. They are so easy to get attached to. I have 2 BBWS and I really like them. But we got them for meat and we have to process them this weekend or next

Im gonna cry I know it. But I keep reminding myself why we got them. Here they are a few days ago meeting one of our Bourbon Reds

WOW your turkey's look so different than mine! Are yours Toms?!

Here is Nelly, my BBW, this photo is from 1 month ago, when she was 3.5 months, she's now 4.5 months!

They are 17weeks so almost 4.5 months. One is a tom the other is a hen. They are only that red in the last pic because of the intruder jake at their fence lol.

Here is another pic

Oh geez, they both look just like Nelly! I thought there would be an obvoius difference in the tom and her... Now I'm wondering if she could be a tom??
