Thank you. :hugs I’ve had several losses over the years but I think this one is the worst one because I know if I had just gotten out there minutes earlier I could have saved them or if I had just not let them out to begin with! I wanted them to be able to stretch a bit before the storm since they will be locked in for days but I should have know the predators would be hungry! It’s awful too cause I was out working and only went in for a few minutes 😭😭

It’s one thing when you find them long dead or they just go missing but having to watch her bleed out, take her last breaths, and do the death throes and knowing it was too late to save her was just awful. :hit :hit and then even worse was when I realized it was a baby! I thought it was my old Australorp hen at first which would have been a relief almost because she is 5 and I’m not sure she’s going to make it through this winter. But it just had to be a baby 😭😭
I remember hearing the guineas go nuts when I was inside making truffles, or something. It was January or February. This was normal, as we had four of the screaming things, but then I heard the chickens.
Spooked a hawk off of Kahlua. Picked him up to bring him inside, and he kept twitching. Flopped right out of my arms on the way back, flopped a bit more, twitched, then just stopped and started to stiffen.
If I'd come out the moment that the guineas started screaming, rather than waiting a few moments, I probably could have saved the boot-hating OEGB.
Things happen -- it wasn't your fault. Hawks are fast and nimble and come in when you least expect it. I saw one shoot along at about head height when I was inside, and it was pretty much a blur.
Heck, months ago, one came around the side of a parked car maybe ten feet away from where I was sitting on the deck steps -- never heard it coming, just knew it was there when it balked midair and flew off. A bit more recently, another one dove for Marshmallow under a tree when I was twenty feet away, missed, and left.
Don't blame yourself. :hugs

Lmao that would be me 😭😂🤣 I’ve never worn heels LOL
I've worn them before, but not the super tall and skinny ones -- maybe two inches. Made me feel all fashion-y and ladylike. It was fun, once I got the hang of it.
I do not recommend them for icy days, though -- I imagine that it wouldn't go very well. Jiggly ankles like the poor missy above.

Don't try to walk across grass with them either.
