Hi all,

I've been working now for almost three years on getting my Blue/Black/Splash line going and after this year of trials and tribulations. I have gotten probably the best little birds to start out on my grow outs for late this year, and going into the following. This is a smaller project, but I do plan to make some of the healthiest and prettiest marans possible :) .

My main rooster is from Meyer's and he does an overall great job, good personality, good to the girls and babies. I could not ask for a better OG rooster. (Name is Rex)

The solo Splash I hatched out is a rooster as well we call him Blanco, and overall a good guy I think. Structure and coloring coming in is excellent for what I want.

I have a mixed flock of hens as well that are EE's/OE's and won't be keeping any mixed roosters that I hatch just to prevent any kind of future issues or problems. The cuckoo's I have will also get separated out eventually when I start getting into selling specific marans just to prevent people from being upset when they want pure breeds etc.

The blue rooster I got from my last hatch is doing well, and very good a little aggressive with the other baby roosters but only hormones I believe not actually a rude guy (hopefully).

I also have Sebastopol project that I'm working on for next year as breeding season doesn't start till Jan/Feb for the geese.

Photo Dump courtesy of myself with the nice cool weather in upstate NY.

Plan is to hopefully by early fall I will have a farm page, and do formal selling of babies & hatching eggs. I also got NPIP/AI certified last year, just for peace of mind and also ensuring I'm giving future owners great quality and healthy birds!

This is awesome...looking forward to your breeding project.

Did you leg band all 3 groups of birds from the breeders to identify them separate? Just curious.....
So funny enough. The splash and blues all came from Cedar. The black all came from the greenfire farms offshoot.

I had none from the texas BBS hatch technically.

Then I have two EE x BCM crosses, One BCM from my current line, and then two cuckoo's (roosters) I'll have to get some pics of them. Planning on banding the ones I'm going to keep. We have someone picking up the extra hens I've hatched but no one wants roosters it seems. Lots of flakiness at least, and I don't want to just gift them away as I've spent a good bit of money + feed on them now lol.

Guess it might be time to get the second tractor going for the yard

But to answer your question. I have my OG line tagged by the state for the NPIP w/ numbers so I track them that way.

These new ones I'm going to do the permanent bands in about two weeks. Plan is to make sure they standout, and easier to guide.

I'm also in the process to sourcing a shed to house the geese + two chicken coops with a three run split design. So I'll have my OG BCM's, The Cedar + Greenfire. The BCM's so far have good hackle and posture I think. They were hiding in the brush because we have canadian geese flying over near a lake, and the rooster alerts to every single one as if it's a hawk lol.

Well that's strangely easy.

I'm just spit balling an idea here, but it might be a good idea to do separate hatches from both groups until you get your selections down and then start pairing the 2 groups together. You'll get some Black out of your Cedar Blues, so you'll have your 3 colors there.

Texas? Is this Copper Hill by chance?
