I have three baby black coppet marans, born May 20 (so I know it's early). I'm leaning toward #3 being a boy. I know the obvious male copper spots on the shoulders when I see them but is there anything else I can look for?

Last one definitely a boy. The other two hard to tell so early but so far likely pullets. Watch for red wattles. My 15 week old copper marans is just getting hers now. Girls can get the copper flecks on their necks but not wings etc. their copper flecks also seem to come later in my (fairly limited) experience.

This is not entirely true especially at a young age. Pullets can show copper throughout their hatch down (called 'Mossiness'), and hopefully it molts out. It's not desirable to breed from them but it does happen. I have a few from an over colored roo x all black hen. Not knowing the genetics background behind either bird, I can only move forward and breed it out in future progeny.

This is true in my flock. The boys tend to color up much earlier.

These 2 pics are my Easter Sunday hatch pic taken Apr. 22 at 3 weeks old. I have 2 pullets out of the 3 from that hen throwing mossy.
