Hi everyone!

I'm taking volunteers for those who would like to participate in my daughter's Flat Stanley project.

If you have kids, especially younger ones, chances are all you moms out there have heard of the national F.S. project or perhaps your child has/is participating in it now. Great! For those who don't know about F.S., its a children's book written by Jeff Brown, titled Flat Stanley. Its about a boy who gets accidentally squashed "flat as a pancake" & while he's really flat, he's perfectly fine. Since his family doesn't have enough money to send him on a trip to visit a friend, because he's so flat, they decide to fold him up & mail him off instead. The story goes on to tell how Stanley discovers the advantages of being *flat*. Its a really cute story.

Anyways, my daughter's Kindergarten class are now making their own *Flat Stanley's* & as a class project everyone has to mail them off to as many people as they'd like, family & friends all around the world. The idea is that you treat Stanley as your guest for a day & then send him back to me with a short note describing Stanley's *adventures* while he was in your care. Many people send back postcards describing the cities they live in, etc, souvenirs & pictures of Stanley on his adventures.

This has been an on going project that many many schools have participated in all across the country. Here is the official website for those who'd like to check it out so you know I'm not some crazy person. I'm just a mom trying to make this project super fun for my child. www.flatstanley.com
Her class will also be going on a fieldtrip to see the Flat Stanley musical.

I'm sorry this is so long. Now for those of you who'd like to invite Stanley to come spend a day with you at your home, job, etc please just pm me with your address & tell me what you plan for Stanley to do while he's in your care. I will prompylt mail him off to you & send along a self addressed stamped envelope as well for you to mail him back home no cost to you.

Our Stanley has already visited our local chicken hatchery, my father's farm down on the Gulf, a 1st grade classroom from a relative who teaches in another state, he's been on a hiking trip thru Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, etc. It would be neat if he could go to...say any kind of animal farm or if you think your job is interesting then take him to work. Please take a few pics & email them to me & don't forget to write details about Stanley's visit.

My daughter will pick out all her favorite replies & make a posterboard for school as show & tell. So your pics, postcards, etc could end up being an exciting learning experience for a SW Missouri Kindergarten class!

Thanks everyone! PM me if you have any questions!
Sorry so long.

I would be happy to have some of my 6th graders help out if you'd like. We used to have a 5th grade teacher who did that every year and they had a blast. I have a geocache and travel bug my class tracks.

Hi there -

We are in "horse country" just north of Dallas. If Flat Stanley would like to visit my daughter and I, he is welcome. We could probably get a picture of him riding a horse and maybe at the lake/state park nearby.

I well remember Flat Stanley from when she was in kindergarten. Would be happy to return the favor! PM me if you would like my address.

Have fun!

Lisa

I think Flat Stanley is a great idea. A dear friend of mine's daughter did that last year in school. Of course...Stanley visited us here...and I say..we had so much fun. He was a great help cleaning coops, and feeding hens. However, he was a little scared of the roosters...and I think he ended up with a little " egg on his face" Yes, Stanley loves fresh eggs for breakfast! If he would like to come to Indiana....we have a spare room..and he is welcome.

Flat Stanley can ride along in a cop car here. My SO is gonna think I'm nuts, well....he already does; but I'm always looking to provide him with more proof. I PM'ed you.

Thanks y'all for the responses to my thread . This project has really taken off, so much so that its now become a family project as much as a school project. My other kids want in on the action too. Haha

I've recieved so many replies via pm's that I've decided to let each one of my kids make their own Stanley's- so we can send several out at a time.

And a Thank You to everyone who shared their own Stanley Project stories with me. Sounds like many of you had just as much fun with this project as we are!

We still haven't had anyone from Australia invite Stanley over & we would really love for him to visit there! Especially if anyone lives close to the Australia Zoo & can send us a Steve Irwin postcard!!! We'd love Stanley to visit other countries as well.

Hey there, don't know if we are too late, but we would be happy to take Flat Stanley up to Lake Tahoe and down to some towns where Gold was discovered in CA. And I am a nurse so I could take him to the Hospital where I work. If you would be interested, just pm me and we can get in touch. Thanks, Suz
