I have this disease as well and I don't see it going away any time soon. I rescued one hen last summer and she was lonely so I thought I need to get her a rooster. Then to my surprise a neighbors rooster decided to make my place his new home (neighbors didn't care and didn't want him). I thought this is it I have a pair I'll get a few eggs and have them to enjoy. Then a month later 9 chicks were being given away since they were what didn't sell. I felt so sad I thought I need to give them a home! I went to pick them up and the lady threw in a 10th one because he was a for sure rooster and she could keep him. So I came have with my 10 and thought this is wonderful. About 5 months later one of the girls goes broody I thought what do I do! I've never had a mama hen. It was the middle of winter so I let her have her one egg. All was beautiful she was a great mom, survived winter with the chick. Here came spring and 2 other girls went broody. I thought I can't show favorites and only let one be a mom. So I gave each of them 2 eggs. Keep in mind I was trying to keep my population down. One rooster was killed by a dog and I thought this will be okay I have hens about to hatch out it will fill in my missing roo. Everything was great once again and I was at a steady number. Now the first chick that hatched out is broody and sitting on 3 eggs. Once again I thought I can't be unfair she wants chicks. I currently lost another bird so that is why I gave her 3 eggs. 2 to add to population and 1 to fill in for the one I just lost. I have 3 adolescent hens right now that I'm sure will go broody next year and this " can't be unfair" cycle will continue. I ended up with an all rooster flock of 4 and a separate flock with a roo and all the hens and chicks right now. It works out for me and everyone gets along. This disease doesn't have affect on me anymore with quail. They are so small and don't have a very long lifespan on average (even though I do have a 6 year old one). I just have 4 quail. I started with 2. One died I got 3. One of those died and I got 2 more and then another died and I just stopped getting them. I get to attached to them and their loss takes affect on me hard.hello everyone a few years ago I got this deadly disease from my chickens and lots of you guys probably have it or are about too this disease is called starting out with 3 chickens and then saying ok well I wanna try and hatch some and then awww look how cute these chicks are at the feed store and then saying well marsh died from a halk I need to get a new one in her honor but you can’t just have one chick or it will die and this goes on and on and on until here I am with 16 chickens 3 turkeys and I’m about to put more chicks in and I know some of you guys have worse/better versions of this disease but it’s a reall thong reply if you agree although it’s a pretty fun and AWESOME disease too right!?![]()
