My ducks give up laying when the weather turns, so we have had to buy store bought eggs, in trying to make the best out of things ive been getting Jumbo eggs for the bigger cattons and they at least resemble a duck egg. The trouble with jumbo eggs is they also FEEL like a duck egg in the hand. I have had to re train myself that i no longer need a backswing to break open an egg, the first day i was making breakfast for the family and ended up with 2 egg grenades smashed all over the place, and the rest actually made it into the bowl, but with lots of shrapnel. This morning (perhaps 6 dozen eggs in) i have finally overcome my muscle memory and mastered the art of cracking a 72g chicken egg… very gently! I got myself 2 perfectly cracked eggs on the skillet… now if I could only get used to the flavor 😕

Yes, those duck eggs do take a bit more to break open. Thank you for the visual this morning, it gave me a chuckle.

A friend gave me some quail eggs and a, as she called it “glorified cigar clippers” to cut them open. I didn’t try to crack one on my own. I am amazed at how different all the eggs are from bird to bird.

I did something similar just the other day. But I have ducks as well as chickens and I was trying to crack a couple of chicken eggs. Chicken eggs are practically delicate compared to duck eggs.

I tend to clean out the fridge for breakfast, the other day was a little piece of cube steak and eggs, not bad, but today I found roast potatoes and a pork chop and a couple eggs :D:drool now i am hungry againjust thinking about it! I sure will br happy when they start laying again.

My ducks haven't laid since Oct and my chickens aren't laying either [my older ones] so to keep from having to buy eggs AGAIN like last year I bought 7 new chicks this past summer and they are now laying. It's so awesome to go out every day and find eggs again.

I made two lemon meringue pies yesterday with a dozen of my son's duck eggs. After puncturing the yolk on the first two in my fight to get in the egg, I had to get my son to come over and help me! He had to open the remaining 10 eggs and he did a great job separating them!

I'll just stop eating and baking with eggs if my son's duck eggs dry up! His smaller pekin duck stopped laying mid-December but his big girl is still faithfully giving an egg every morning.
