I went to clean out an extra 1 gallon waterer I have in the chicken run (the kind with the red base and white top) and I put my fingers under the red base to grab it and change it. I felt something touch my finger. I flipped it over and there was a black widow on the underside of it. Luckily it was a male, they're not venemous like the females. But still, not going to do that one again.
 
I've got the black widows in my yard too. Haven't seen them by the coop yet, but I'm sure they are near. Yuck!!

In MA, never heard of any black widows here (and never hope to).
