Since they hatched, my ducks have only had eachother, two girls.
My plan was to adopt more, but my circumstances have changed and I dont think I will be able to take in any more ducks

Will they be happy as a pair? Or is it cruel to keep so few?
They've been indoors until now, but now I'm afraid that they will be scared moving outdoors. (Safety in numbers, is my thought process).
I won't be selfish and keep them if they would be happier in a proper flock with more space.
What do you think? Be completely honest, dont spare my feelings

I'm not a duck expert, and if anyone else has another opinion I would probably follow their advice over my own, but I had two ducks living with each other for roughly a year (male and female) they were fine. But they have ducklings now (who aren't quite ducklings anymore) and there is now a total of 8.
Anyway, Id say they get along fine as a pair

Don't have ducks, but I'd say ducks can do well as a pair, I know my 2 hens did for a few months. Your only problem would be if one died, the other may get depressed. Make sure they have a safe area to run around in.
Best of luck

I think it’s just fine to have only a pair of ducks. Now if one were to pass and one was left alone you would need to either get another duck or rehome the one.

So you’re moving them outdoors? How old are they?

my fear is that if I were to adopt a duck, in place of the one that died (in this hypothetical scenario) I would want to quarantine the new bird for a few weeks, and that puts my remaining duck in a lonely situation for quite a while- this is why I really wanted a minimum of 3

They're 16 weeks, they spend most of their time outside but sleep indoors and live quite a pampered life, their outdoor set up is a work in progress- the plan was to get them moved out fully in the coming weeks

I agree that 3 would be the ideal minimum but I in no way think 2 is cruel. But it does kind of pose a dilemma if one were to die.

Oh they’re still young enough that a full transition outside shouldn’t be a big deal especially if they’re spending their days outside.
