Because it could all disappear in heart beat.

I watched my neighbor's house burn to the ground this weekend. Fortunately the family was not at home so they were safe, but they lost everything they owned. From the moment the alarms started going off to the house being fully engulfed in flames was 8 minutes.

8 minutes.

This was a new house. No shoddy building or cutting corners. A beautiful, well-built home. But in 8 minutes time that house went up like a torch. I keep thinking that if the family had been home would they have even been able to get out?

Since this happened I keep finding myself hugging my daughter a little tighter and kissing my husband a little more frequently. We have a roof over our heads, and we have each other. I am so thankful that everyone is alright. I am so thankful that nobody was injured or killed. My neighbors can replace most of the stuff that was lost and the house will be built again. If they had been at home when the fire started, though....

Would 8 minutes have been long enough for them to get out?

I am so sorry for that family. Prayers said. You are so right to be Thankful for what we have. Even when we think things are bad someone else has it so much worse. Thank you for that reminder. I will give my family extra hugs and love.

to that family and to you for having to watch that. God Bless all of you

Glad they are alive. I hope their insurance won't give them a hard time.
