This thread is two years old and was reignited by someone not checking the dates, a couple pages back. The OP has not posted since 2009. I suspect it was a personal attack, but without the OP we will never know.
I posted 2 years ago that I would only let someone see my flock from a distance. In the ensuing 2 years, after many negative experiences, I no longer allow anyone on the property. Not due to illness, but due to some really scary people. Now, I meet any buyer in a grocery store parking lot for live birds, eggs are left at the drive or delivered.
Have to agree with this. I've been trying to sell culls and extras on craigslist and get the run around. I had one person email me several times and on my ad I had the zip so folks can get an idea of the area. This person wanted my exact address which made me nervous, but I gave it to her since she emailed me several times. Then a now show, that just infuriated me. Sent her an email stating that it was suspicious asking for an address then no-showing.
Then I've had people wanting me to basically come to them with 1 chick. Right? Sorry not with gas almost 4 bucks a gallon.
We've had things come up missing(not birds YET) so I'm just going to meet people in town from now on. If they have a problem with that then too bad. We have a small livestock auction not far from here and some will have to go there.
I agree wholeheartedly that just because one doesn't want strangers on their property does not mean they have something to hide. Not in this day and age.

Can't stand that. I had this idiot last week who contacted me about ducklings for sale. She was about 2 hours away in a different state and wanted me to meet her halfway for $30 worth of ducklings. I'd waste more in gas to drive 2 hours round trip, plus the ad states in caps pick up only. I wake up to 10 emails from this nut and says she will come at 2pm in one of her emails, never shows, never calls, no email, nothing. I was p'd. What a waste of my time talking to her on the phone and wasting my time emailing her instructions on how to care for the birds.

I've been getting the run around from people on Craigslist over culls I was giving away. Can't imagine what selling them must be like.

We have been trying to sell most of our chickens....tons of no shows....and those that come out and pick out a lavender orpington and offer $5 for it.....I don't let anyone near our flock.I catch up the birds and bring them close to the house. We had a silver Sussex rooster and hen stolen out of our backyard. You can look from a distance and hear them....but I don't want to take chances with diseases or Snoopy people....I have some chicks in my house...I may be rude not to invite them in...but I don't know you.....and this is my space....
I agree I meet them at the local McDonalds and if they ask to see the parents I say nope and tell them why. I have never had anyone get mad about it directly but over the phone they have said nevermind. Anytime something is free you get the cheapskates calling and they are flakes usually, I have actually raised the price on the phone to them to get them to shut up.. I will put a price up and then give it to the right person.
Have you considered contacting the ASPCA and/or Dept. of Health and forward the add (or name/address if you have it) and suggest that they perform an inspection? That could get it shut down or cleaned up quickly.
I agree with all the concerns regarding biosecurity.
