Beagles and chickens living happily with each other?

Well it has been a rough journey for me. Roscoe developed a really expensive shoe fettish and has killed several pair of shoes and boots around the house despite me having them on a shelf in a closet with the door closed. He figured out how to ope the bifolding doors and get in there. His anxiety in the kennel has gotten a little better, he only freaks out for 10 minutes before he gives up and settles down. If I am on the phone for tooo long he has accidents on the carpet to spite me. If I take a shower with the door closed he pee's on the carpet outside the door. He completey destroyed 3 handmade quilts that can't be replaced (one was from my grandmother and the other 2 were from my BF's grandmother). He has gotten better on walks IF I am the only one going on the walk with him. Him and 1 of the cats get along but he still chases the rescue cat who is terrified of him so we have been using the squirt bottle for that. He got in the basement serama aviary and got himself a bird. He didn't kill the hen but did have her in his mouth, however he didn't bite down hard enough to puncture her just scared the living crap out of her. He still sleeps in my bed every night. He has a ton of energy to expell with daily walks. One in the morning before I head to work, and another when I get home. Each lasting 45-60 minutes. Once I am home from work and after dinner we have playtime in the yard for anouther 30-45 minutes along with what feels like constant playtime in the house with his rope and tennis ball. He is extremely social with other dogs and loves them all. SO much so that I have been trying to convince my bf to get another beagle for a companion for him but so far i'm not winning that battle. Peroxide has become my best friend for cleaning those pesky pet stains from the light colored carpet. He hasn't had anoy episodes with tummy aches since I took him to the vet. The antibiotics cleared up the infection really good thank god. HE is making progress slowly but surely. I think we will be investing in an electric dog fence verses putting up a better fence as we just can't afford to cover such a large area. The fencing in place is wire fencing meant to keep the birds in not dogs so he can quite easily crawl under or hop over it. For now the zipline set up works well and gives him a large space to roam yet far enough from the fencing. From what I have gathered from a few other beagle owners this breed doesn't start calming down until they are between 2-3 yrs old. Uffdah. I hope I still have a few strands of hair left by then LOL. All kidding and stress aside I truely do adore him and I am greatful to have been able to save his life. He is aweful good at that heart melting part hehehehe

Just thought I'd throw out a hint for treat-based training: baby carrots.

My vet suggested them for my older daschund several years ago. Commercial dog treats are too full of fats, as are pigs' ears.

My boys LOVE baby carrots, and they know what they are when I announce "Baby carrots!" so my friends and I refer to them as "BCs" so the mere mention doesn't get them strayed.

"But we HEARD you SAY baby carrots - where are they?!? We want them NoW!"
