Two of my chicks had their lower beaks grow at 90degrees to the left while the top beak is normal. One chick died but the other can eat as long as I have the feeder full so she can tip her head sideways - does anyone know if this is a genetic disease or what caused this?

Did you hatch them out yourself? I cannot believe more people haven't responded.

I had a chick that hatched like that once. I just cull....no need to let the animal suffer. I only cull because the beak never gets better it always get worse. But you can take care of them and a lot have lived as long as they get the proper nutrition.

As long as there are no other visible disabilities I'd let it live only if you're willing to take special care of it.

Here's a good thread for you.

Hope this helps.
