Yes, RJ seems to eat fine. He is a beautiful, healthy bird. We are not sure when his beak grew like this. We just noticed it last week. I think it was because of the reduced daylight and his being in the coop earlier.
Thanks RJ. I ended up taking a Dremel to Phineas' beak and trimmed past where I thought the quick was, but never hit blood. The beak is more aligned now, and she is now better able to pick up large seeds (BOSS), but is still having a rough time.
Is this upper beak too long. seems to eat okay. Also is the beak end like a toe nail on a dog or cat. I imagine it may bleed so how short do you cut it back?
Yes the beak does look a little bit long. And Yes it is like a dog nail if you cut too far back it will bleed. If the turkey is eating fine I suppose you can just leave it be, if you decide to trim it you can use dog nail clippers just snip a tiny bit off the tip. See how it does for a few days and you can snip more later if need be.
