A bear attacked the coop, lost 4 and 2 remained okay but traumatized.

Since this attack my 1 year old barred rock has been laying almost white eggs. She always layed brown. Does anyone know why? Do you think she is still traumatized? One reason could be, she lost her sister, they both were stuck together like glue.

I feel so sorry for her loss.

Has anyone had emotions with chickens due to predators?

Thank you group.

We had a rooster wander around dazed for 2-3 days after losing most of our flock to an animal attack (dog?). Not sure about the egg color change though.

I think because she lost her buddy she's still stressed. They were so close they never left each others side. Had another tinted white thin egg again today. I never thought chicken's memory lasted so long.

It's just stress from the attack and the change in flock population/pecking order dynamic....
.....and can definitely affect laying.

Brown eggs are white shells with a brown coating, sometimes the 'spray booth' malfunctions.
Stress can affect shell thickness also.
They'll calm down in time.

Meanwhile get some HOT wire up around the coop for that bear, cause it'll be back.

Thank you good tips.
