Bear tried to break down the barn door - now what

maybe you could figure out a way to create a pepper bomb that triggers when the bear tries a door. it goes off & blows a bunch of red pepper in it's face. combine that w/a sudden loud horn. I know, great idea and no idea how to make one. just thinking aversion therapy might be the way to go.
if you're not careful, you & the bear might come face to face sometime.

I like that pepper idea. String up some bhut jolokia and make a wall of peppers. Or sensor triggered cans of bear spray. There's got to be something like that out there.

It actually could kill someone, since he didn't use a FENCE charger.
Any strong continuous shock can stop a heart

Electricity isn't something to play with
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~It is VERY evident you know nothing about transformers....both a fence charger and a flourescent light ballast are step up transformers, same as a 12 volt auto coil increasing the voltage, but not amps....they all get your attention, FAST!!....CONTINUOUS??? Killing You??..Just how long can you hold onto something shocking you?? This wasn't exactly an electric chair you are strapped into, or a power line with a pole holding you from moving......let me see YOUR reaction time holding onto your own fence charger wires continuously..:) you can't hold on......And as for the door handle???...you didn't see the pictures of what the bear did trying to get in???.......If you're so stuck on an electric fence, just suggest install one in front of the door real quick!!...then later do the whole farm.....you are not helping the topic of this thread by arguing your educationally baseless personal opinion of electicity...sorry, but there's better things to post about
I know the topic of whether bears eat meat or not has been addressed, but this is a pretty cool video worth sharing.
I have bears pass through my property regularly in broad daylight. My dog does a nice job of moving them along quickly though. I am considering surrounding my 2-1/2 acres with electric fence. Until recently here in Florida they were protected as a threatened species(Florida black bear)and harming one carried a huge penalty. They were removed from the threatened list in 2012, but it is still illegal to harm one, although now it is only a misdemeanor. A couple of years ago a guy in the area chased a bear down with his truck and struck it several times, then shot it because he felt it was threatening his dog. He ended up facing felony charges/jail time.http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2010/nov/30/Ryan-Toranzo-estates-charged-kill-bear-attack-dog/
Anyhow, here's the video of a grizzly running down an elk and killing it:
I have heard of the DNR having to compensate for dogs and livestock killed by wolves, I never though of it for bears or other animals. I don't know how well that would work though, since the government claims ownership of whitetailed deer and those deer cause millions of dollars worth of auto damage every year, the gov't doesn't have to pay for that?
As long as one makes a claim.
In the LEGAL insurance world, there is a difference with you hitting the deer as opposed to the deer hitting you.
As anything to do with LAW, " I put a SPELL on you".
This came from the horse's mouth.
If you shot a grizzly after it killed one of your cows you will be charged.
You if you shot a grizzly while it was trying to kill one of your cows then you will not be charge.
Why you might ask?
Your trying to prevent financial restitution.
Quote: Homemade electric fence controllers are responsible for the continuing electrocution of both human beings and . animals.
The use of such controllers should be prohibited by law. The interests of public safety demand that specific enforceable legislation covering electric fence controllers be enacted in each of the various states of this country. Need exists for uniformity in the various electric fence safety codes. With the exception of the continuous type of electric fence, it is doubtful if the differences in the present codes can be justified on the basis of safety
.I also have to assume, based on your statements above, you have never heard of "let go" current levels
The device you suggest using puts out FAR more energy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluorescent_lamp
Quote:
A general lighting service 48-inch (1,219 mm) T12[19] lamp operates at 430 mA, with 100 volts drop. High output lamps operate at 800 mA, and some types operate up to 1.5 A. The power level varies from 33 to 82 watts per meter of tube length (10 to 25 W/ft) for T12 lamps.[20]
So, are all these REAL ELECTRICIANS incorrect too?
Really? I'm going to ask that tonight in Contracts although this is probably a Torts issue, right? There must be some justification for preventing future loss. The bear was never going to be able to make you whole again, so I'm not sure what kind of restitution applies in human/bear law.
>Why do people ask for permission to protect their private property?
Why do people feel the need to write a political essay on a chicken web site?
This is more interesting than the debate at the environmental law update last night. I admit I am enjoying and learning a little about electricity, too. Wonder how the guy who had the bear problem is doing- is he still part of the dialogue or did we lose him?
